Condolences for Richard M. Fitzpatrick, Ph.D.

Jon KirbyMonday, June 14th

Dick Fitzpatrick taught me how to be a teacher, a father, and so much more. He taught me how to be a man. I woke up each morning trying to live up to his standards. If I never let Mr. Fitzpatrick down then I guess I was doing ok. He was a role model to all of us. Loved by all of us. He loved his family. All his kids who made him proud everyday. Dick has 7 of his own but was like a father to thousands more. Dick Fitzpatrick, the best man I ever knew, I was lucky to be touched by him.

I served on the Board of Education with Dr. Fitzpatrick as superintendent for 9 years. He was such a compassionate person and dedicated educator. His passion and work ethic were above and beyond. I consider him a role model and mentor and knowing him not only blessed me with his educational knowledge, but also his incomparable energy and dedication to others. He loved his family so much and they sacrificed a lot by sharing him with everyone. The world is a much better place, and I a much better human being because for a short time I walked beside him on this journey. Your passing leaves a huge void in the lives of so many but your spirit lives on in the thousands of lives you have touched with your kindness and heartfelt actions. Rest In Peace my friend…😔💐

I was the Supervisor of Transportation for UFR when Millstone took over their transportation department so as you can imagine Dr Fitz and I spent to much time on he phone together. I admired him as a superintendent but most as a person, he spoke so warmly about everyone/ every child/ every staff member every day. He spoke with most joy of his family and the happiness for life with them. He was the person who would also ask you every time how you were and sat there with great care in his eyes listening to the answer. I happened to be in his office the last day he was there before he had to suddenly leave, I remember that day now fondly. Rest in Peace Dr Fitzpatrick, you left your mark that will not soon be forgotten. Many condolences to his family

I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Fitzpatrick in Colts Neck. He was a warm and caring man. We often talk about him and how he truly cared about people. Many of us still have the jackets and umbrellas he provided to us! It made bus duty much more bearable! I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I hope knowing people think fondly of him helps in some way to ease your sadness.

He would shake every single one of our hands every morning while at Stony Brook. He was always our biggest cheerleader and his All Star spirit was inspiring and infectious! RIP Dr. Fitzpatrick, will never forget your love for our school 🌟

Dr Fitzpatrick was my first introduction to the Medfield Education System coming into first grade from another town. I still remember his office and having a conversation with him. Thank you for being a warm introduction and starting our educations off in a caring environment.

I am so very sad to hear this. Mr. Fitzpatrick was THE most wonderful principal ever, anywhere, but in my experience as a parent of three at Tollgate Grammar School. He's been missed in Pennington for many years now. What a wonderful man.

Dr Fitzpatrick left a huge impact on our entire family. I was always impressed with how he knew literally everyone’s names. Not a single day of his job as an educator did he take for granted.

Dr. Fitzpatrick made a big and positive impression on our family. Stonybrook School was literally created in his image as an educator. The kids remember him for greeting each one by name very morning. Who does that? But, he was much more. Classical music playing in the halls, paintings adorning walls, were some other special touches he added to this above average school. Stonybrook really started our son off well when it came to education. Thank you Dr. Fitz! Rest In Peace.

The best principal I ever got to work with at TollGate. His heart was with every one of those children and their families. Prayers to his family.

Dear Jane and Family,
My deepest sympathy on the loss of Dr. Fitzpatrick. I was one of the fortunate teachers who had him as a principal at Stony Brook Elementary. He was an exemplary leader and a wonderful role model of what it means to be a selfless educator. He put his heart and soul into his profession. I remember him driving to pick up a student whose parents were very late after a field trip. He was always there for the staff and the students. I was honored to have worked for him. He touched the lives of so many students and teachers. I am so sorry for your loss.

We moved to Medfield when our oldest daughter was entering kindergarten because we heard such wonderful things about the principal, Dick Fitzpatrick. We feel extremely fortunate to have not only known Dick the educator, but to have been lucky enough to have him and his big wonderful family as our neighbors. Our hearts go out to Jane, his children and grandchildren. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

My family and I moved to Medfield in the mid 80’s. It was not easy being the new kid in school. Thanks Mr Fitzpatrick for making it that much easier with your kindness and for always going out of your way to making me feel welcome. You were the first cool principal. My condolences to Judy and the rest of the Fitzpatricks.

Nancy DunneMonday, June 21st

Dear Jane and family,
Like so many, Dick made a lasting impact on the Dunne Family. At family gatherings we still quote things he taught us and make reference to the many special touches he brought to Toll Gate. As a parent in HV but an educator in a different school district, he introduced me to Responsive Classroom which has had a huge impact on my teaching career. Others have mentioned how he greeted every child by name each morning, but there is so much more. When an artist in residence came to Toll Gate, every child's thumbprint was included in one of the masterpieces that was prominently displayed in the cafeteria, my daughter still remember's him reading The Polar Express to the school (she never watched the movie for fear of ruining that memory), he began the March Madness basketball tournament largely for a student who needed something special in his life at that time.
The entire Dunne Family will never forget him and we consider ourselves blessed to have known him. We send you our deepest sympathies, Dick, Nancy, Billy, Megan, Kelsey and Patrick Dunne

Dr. Fitzpatrick was a great person. He had amazing stories and love to talk to everyone. He was really special to me. He would call me his "Newtown Buddy" because we both lived in Newtown at the time. He was very family oriented as well. He will be greatly missed. For his family and the community I know this is a tremendous loss.

So sorry to hear about this, Jane. Richard touched all of us with his passion and goodness. He was a good and thoughtful cousin as well. I will not be attending the services but will be in Newtown around July 9. I hope you might be up for some company if Ellen and I visit. Be strong tomorrow. Rich would want that.

All my love

Mario

Unfortunately, I didn’t know him long, but he left a lasting impression on me as a warm man who loved his time as an educator. He said once that he told his students to find their own way, or in his words, to “find their North”. My heart goes out to sweet Jane and the family. May his memory be a blessing.

Hersey & Linda MayeuxFriday, June 25th

Jane & family,
First let me say we are so sorry for your loss. There are no words for what Dr. Fitzpatrick meant to me (Hersey). Life was never the same when he unfortunately no longer could work at Upper Freehold. We were brothers from another mother and we had each others front, back, left & right, as he always always said. His memories will be in my heart forever. May all your beautiful memories help you through. With love, Hersey & Linda Mayeux
