Thomas J. McTear

Thomas J. McTear of North Wildwood, NJ., formerly of Southampton, PA died peacefully on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. He was 71.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the beloved husband of 44 years to Patricia A. “Patti” Gibbons McTear. He was also the son of the late Paul H. and Kathleen M. Boyd McTear, and father of the late Christine McTear.

Tom was a graduate of LaSalle College High School, class of 1968 and LaSalle University, class of 1977 and received his Doctorate in General Dentistry from Temple University School of Dentistry in 1977.

Tom loved the outdoors; he was an avid water skier and snow skier. He was at home either in the waters of New Jersey or the mountains of Pennsylvania. He was an assistant scout leader and a supporter of camping while his boys were growing up and enjoyed working with model trains.

Tom was proud of his Irish heritage, could tell a good yarn and looked forward to wearing his kilt and his sporran on special occasions.

He will be forever missed, but never forgotten by his devoted family.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife Patti, his 2 sons, Thomas J. McTear, Jr. and his wife Amber, and Patrick G. McTear and his fiancé Caroline Dutertre. Also surviving is his brother Paul H. McTear, Jr. and his wife Denise; his 5 loving grandchildren; David, Caylee and Savannah Dutertre and Hayden and Kieran McTear. He was also blessed with many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and nephews and nieces.

Tom’s viewing will be on Sunday evening December 5, 2021 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home 800 Newtown-Richboro Rd. (at Holland Rd.)  in Richboro and on Monday, December 6, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 611 Knowles Ave. Southampton from 10:00am until his Funeral Mass at 11:00am.

Interment will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 399 Market St. Suite 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106 or Pancreatic Cancer Fund c/o Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, 111 South 11th Street Philadelphia, PA 19107.
