Joseph Bernard Chapman

Joseph Bernard Chapman, of Locust, NC, died Saturday, October 9, 2021. He was 55 years old.

Joe Chapman spent 55 years on this earth exemplifying everything a Christian man should be. He was a dedicated father who spent countless hours coaching baseball teams, attending sporting events, plays, competitions and every activity involving his children possible. Joe’s steady and calming presence was a source of support to everyone but especially his wife as they worked together to blend their beautiful family. He was the patriarch that all families need.

Joe acquired these gifts and talents through his belonging to the Chapman/Hughes/Gibboni family. Joe came from a long line of faith filled, fun loving, giving, talented people. He learned of faith, compassion and how to carry his peaceful presence from his mother Bernadette, political prowess, quick wit, and best worst Dad jokes available from his father Rich and honed these skills over the years with his brother Rich and sister Chris. To know and love Joe was to know and love the family who reared him so well. He loved each of them dearly and will surely watch over them all of their days.

Joe was a man of solid and humble faith. He began his life of faith in the Catholic church as a child and later continued his growth in a contemporary non-denominational setting. Joe joyfully served at both Forest Hill Waxhaw and Hillsong Brisbane on Sunday mornings. Joe also stepped out in faith on the mission field traveling to Guatemala on more than one occasion to support his brothers and sisters in Christ. Joe willingly stepped into dangerous places to ensure that those in need knew the love of Jesus Christ.

Joe had three great passions in his life. His faith, his family, and his work. Joe was a fierce presence in both the domestic and global disaster relief networks through his work with Aecom. His counsel was sought after from disaster relief managers in places like Australia, Ireland, and the Middle East. On his most recent global experience Joe spent time in the Gaza Strip offering his assistance on efforts to rebuild there. Joe was not a man who feared risk and he would literally put his life on the line to help those in need. This level of dedication also extended to his everyday co-workers. He was a friend, mentor and confidant who went above and beyond to ensure those around him were given the encouragement, support and direction they needed.

Joe Chapman exemplifies both a life well lived, and one taken far too soon. His legacy will be lasting and far reaching, and he will be missed by all who were blessed to know him.

Joseph was the beloved husband of Jody (nee Coyle) Glass-Chapman. The couple had shared many years of family, laughter and love.

Raised in the Philadelphia area, Joseph was the son of Richard E. Chapman and Bernadette (nee Hughes) Gibboni.

In addition to his wife Jody, Joe will be missed by his 7 children, Flannery Chapman, Erin Chapman, Lily Glass, Bridget Chapman, Cole Glass, Abby Glass and Brody Chapman; his parents, Rich Chapman and Bernadette (nee Hughes) Gibboni; his brother, Rich Chapman (Missy); his sister Chris (nee Chapman) Vavala (Matthew); and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
