Ann P. "Nancy" Murray (Prendergast)

Ann P. “Nancy” Murray of Newtown died peacefully and surrounded by the love of her family on Thursday, November 12, 2020 at Chandler Hall Hospice in Newtown.  She was 79.

Nancy was the loving and devoted wife of John P. Murray who will remember her always as the “brains of the operation.”

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late James J. Sr. and Mary McGlinchey Prendergast.

Nancy graduated from West Catholic High School and went on to attend St. Joseph’s University where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education.  Her thirst for knowledge would lead her to eventually earn two additional Master’s Degrees in education from Temple University and the University of Pennsylvania respectively.

Nancy led a long career of over 37 years with the Philadelphia School District where she educated countless students during the course of her tenure having spent the majority of her time at Meehan Middle School.

In addition to her teaching career, Nancy was passionate about real estate and created somewhat of a hobby purchasing homes both in Bucks County and at the Jersey Shore which she enjoyed not only living in but also renovating.  The Jersey Shore was truly a happy place for her and it was very important to her that her family maintained a second home there including the locales of North Wildwood, Avalon, Cape May, and Wildwood Crest.

Truly a force to be reckoned with, Nancy will be remembered for her insatiable desire to always continue to learn and work hard, principles she instilled in her children and her family.

She was the leader of the family, possessed incomparable confidence and always supported and pushed others to do their best and never settle.

Although Nancy battled Parkinson’s Disease for 25 years, it never prevented her from enjoying life and finding the humor in things.  Her legacy will be treasured forever by those who will miss her.

In addition to her husband, Nancy leaves behind her children, John Murray Jr. of Newtown and Alexis Park (Damien) of Doylestown; her grandchildren, Daniel and James Park; and her siblings, James Prendergast Jr. (Patricia) of Newtown Square and Joan Foley (Leo) of Havertown.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Thomas Prendergast, Catherine Donnelly, and Mary Fasola.

In the interest of safety for all those Nancy loved, the family will hold services and interment at a time when it is safe to gather again.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Perelman Center for Neurodegenerative Disease Research by visiting https://giving.apps.upenn.edu/fund?program=MC&fund=600179 or by making a check payable to the "Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania" and mail to Penn Medicine Development, Attn: Elizabeth Yannes, 3535 Market Street, Suite 750, Philadelphia, PA 19104.
