James J. Dougherty

James J. Dougherty of Newtown died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, May 26, 2019 at Chandler Hall Hospice.  He was 77.

Born in the Swampoodle section of Philadelphia, James was the son of the late Myles and Genieve McGruddy Dougherty.  He is rejoining his beloved sister Gerry and brother Bob.

Jim loved bacon, crossword puzzles, golf, the company of a good woman, scotch, cigarettes and the stock market – not necessarily in that order.  He was the smartest guy we know and it frustrated him greatly as his mental acuity diminished.  His greatest joy was his children and grandchildren.

James is survived by his children: James Dougherty and his wife Janice of Yardley, Jennifer McIntyre and her husband Paul of Newtown, Michael Dougherty and his wife Amy of Glenside, and Maureen Fox and her husband Mike of Doylestown.  He is also survived by his ten loving grandchildren: Connor, Grace, Devin, Kerri, Mia, Jack, Julia, Katherine, Michael and Jayne.

Service and interment were held privately.

In Lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 8th Ave, New York, NY 10001.
