Condolences for Thomas J. Quinlan
On behalf of my family I want to present to the Quinlan family and all those affected by the loss of Mister Thomas Quinlan. He was a great man. God bless his soul . We all will miss big Tom. Love you
Mr Quinlan was well loved by all. I was in the class of 1987 at Lincoln. He was our class sponsor. I remember dancing with him at the senior prom. I wasn’t an actor but was involved in the plays while at Lincoln. He was amazing director. I didn’t have him as a teacher but he was a wonderful man.
He was one of the reasons I became a teacher. I wanted to affect kids the way he affected me. May you feel the peace of the Lord as we all reflect on Mr. Quinlan's love, the way he made everyone feel special, and the contagious joy he found in living.
On behalf of my family, we send our deepest condolences to your family, and thank Big Tom for giving us a son named Joe Quinlan, who has been nothing but a blessing to us.
I just heard the news of Mr. Quinlan’s passing. I met him when I came to Lincoln High School as a freshmen in 1981 and I joined the Drama Club. He had such passion for the theatre. I was in the school plays each year until I graduated in 1985. Truly some of my most treasured memories at Lincoln. I am still friends with some of the people I met in Drama Club. We truly enjoyed our time practicing for the plays and loved working with our beloved Mr. Quinlan. My thoughts are with his loved ones at this difficult time. He made all of our lives brighter. ❤️
Always my favorite teacher of all time. You helped me appreciate the English language. And even thow my poetry always stank, you never have up hope for my success. See you in heaven. Loved Drama club with you!
I was a student at Lincoln and was lucky enough to be part of the flag drill team. That introduced me to Mr Quinlan and his lively spontaneous nature. He would add poetry to his conversations and deliver lines with such zest. He truly enjoyed every moment. He was a blessing and I enjoyed following him on Facebook and listening to him again. God bless him and all of you. A life well lived, RIP sweet soul.
Rest in peace Mr. Quinlan. I will always have treasured memories of choir and drama practice. Also hiding on the band bus to watch Lincoln’s band play for Sly and Mr. T. You made everything fun.
Mr Quinlan was a teacher of mine in the mid 70’s .I fondly remembered his story telling sessions, he was one of the best teachers I ever had
Tom Quinlan was a City treasure. His patience and his skill in crafting lessons were second to none. Even the troublemakers (like I was) were at rapt attention when led a class. The table reads of plays were memorable, as were his repeated insistence upon consistency in language arts. I was at Lincoln for five years (8th-12th), and can count on one hand the teachers that made a difference—Mr. Quinlan, you top that list. God rest your soul, sir.
I am so sorry for your loss. He taught me from 1984 to 1988 at Abraham Lincoln high school. One of the best teachers I’ve ever had in my life. He was so involved. So many accomplishments. A real good man. Rest in peace, Mr. Quinlan.
Let us celebrate a life well lived by a dedicated educator, a caring father, and a true son of Ireland.
I was class of 1980, I have so many great memories from Lincoln H.S. and Mr Quinlan includes a lot of them. I was a part of stage crew and the best memories when they feel the Rocky movie. My thoughts and prayers are with Mr Quinlan and his family and friends at this time. He was truly a great man who touched many lives.
I only met Tom for the first time two and a half years ago, when my wife Martha and I had the pleasure of visiting him a few times at his care facility. I was struck by his fervent curiosity ("What's going on in Afghanistan?") and by his humor and genteel manner. He was no longer in his "prime" (whatever that means), but the time we spent with him was lovely and fun. Best of all, he read us one of his favorite poems aloud--enabling us to see him at his passionate best. It was just a few visits, but we will remember them fondly for the rest of our lives.
Dear Joe and family,
We send you our deepest sympathies from Glucksman Ireland House at NYU, with treasured memories of your father, Tom -- teacher, poet, and scholar.
Our deepest condolences to Mr. Joe Quinlan and family for the loss of his father. Our thoughts and prayers are always with you.
Dear Joe, Mary Lou & all Tom’s family, we offer you our profound sympathy on the loss of your beloved Dad. We were honoured to have had the privilege of knowing Tom - for a few short years - and spending marvellous times with him in Ireland. He always made us feel so special & with his expanse of knowledge, poetic flair, natural charm & gentlemanly courtesy - it was a joy to be around him & he made this world a better place.
Tom’s passing brings to minds an old Irish saying
‘Ní beidh a leitheád aris ann’ …
‘We won’t see the likes of him again’
There was nobody quite like Tom
Quinlan. Rest in peace
Mary & Aidanxx
Mr. Quinlan was my history teacher 1n 1965 when I was in my junior year. The Best!
He could tell a story about fighting the Japanese in WW2. I thought they were always true until he got to the part about out running the bullets, they were firing at him! What a man and what a storyteller!
Rest in peace sir. This is one guy you made an impression on. I think of you often and will always remember you. Oh, and you taught me some good history too!
Sorry, I miss spoke, he taught me English, my bad!
