Valerie T. Ries

Valerie T. Ries, 91, of Riverside, Connecticut, died November 7, 2024.  She died peacefully at her home surrounded by loving family. 

Born April 28, 1933 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Edward and Genevieve Ameika. 

Valerie grew up in Scranton and graduated from high school where she met her husband of 56 years, Vincent F. Ries, who died in 2009. While raising her family of four, Valerie returned to nursing school and worked for many years at Doylestown Hospital. 

She is survived by her son, Vincent W. Ries and wife Mary, New Britain, PA; Deborah Camiolo and husband, David, Doylestown, PA; David Ries and wife, Deborah, Riverside, CT; and Barb Achterfeld and husband Danny, Melbourne, FL; a sister-in-law, Henrietta Ameika of Moosic, PA; a brother-in-law, S. William Ries of West Palm Beach, FL; and three grandchildren, Veronica, Ariel and Vanessa as well as three great-grandchildren.

 Valerie enjoyed cooking, arts and crafts, ceramics, sudoku, and brain games.  She was always giving to her family and was kind and feisty.  We will miss Mom, but are happy to know she is now reunited with her high school sweetheart. 

Family and friends are invited to greet the family on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 East Butler Avenue, New Britain, PA 18901, from 11:30am to 12:30pm. A funeral service will follow. Interment will take place privately at Our Lady of Czestochowa Cemetery, Doylestown, PA. 

Contributions in Valerie’s memory may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL 60601.
