Doris McArthur

Doris McArthur, (Arnold), affectionately known as Dodi, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on November 6, 2024, at the age of 96. Family members were by her side as she entered into her heavenly home, with "It is Well, With My Soul" playing in the background. She was born March 25, 1928, and lived a vibrant, exciting and fulfilling life.

She was the best Mom in every way. She led a selfless life revolving entirely around family – husband Allen, her three daughters, two stepsons, many grandchildren and the greats! She was loving and supportive, with a little quirkiness at times.

Dodi is preceded in death by her late husbands Millard Hendrickson, John Arnold and brother Henry Dunaway. She is survived by her loving children, Debbi Scarpell (Bruce Spaulding), Donna Donnell (Clayton) and Diane Check (Larry). She loved dearly her grandchildren, Trevor Donnell (Juliet), Kevin Donnell (Della), Erin Joyner (Joseph), Andrew Check (Kayla) and precious great grandchildren, Noah, Jonah, Joey, Emma, Charlotte, and Ezekiel (Zeke), plus other family members.

Dodi was a long-time member of Calvary Chapel of Philadelphia, where she found great comfort, friendships and community. She attended with her husband John, prior to his death in 1996. And, now continues with Allen, her loving husband of 26 years. Her faith was a very important aspect of her life, often reflected in her love for singing worship, prayers for friends and family and participating in Bible studies.

Her hobbies were many, ranging from her love of singing, spending years on the local community theatre stage, including performing at the Bucks County Playhouse with all her family. She also enjoyed being a part of the Now Time Singers which showcased her artistic flair, to other pursuits such as gardening, knitting, volunteering at a local Christian ministry each week and working at the Calvary Chapel bookstore. Dodi is an avid Philadelphia sports fan, always passionate about the Flyers and she loved watching her grandson Andrew play baseball. She enjoyed connecting with friends and family on Facebook, keeping up with everyone's lives and texting her daughters every chance she got - even until her final days! And she loved using emojis too.

She was an avid nature lover, especially feeding the squirrels, birds and an occasional groundhog. She loved the flowering trees and seeing the butterflies return in the spring.

A Celebration of Life for Dodi will be held at Calvary Chapel of Philadelphia on Tuesday, November 26. Family & friends will gather at 12:00 pm, followed by the service at 1:00 pm with a light luncheon immediately following. And to celebrate her life, please wear bright colors or purple, the color of joy!

The family is requesting in lieu of flowers, any donations in her name be sent to Hands in Service, PO Box 725, Sellersville, PA 18960. (

Her lifelong scripture was Psalm 16:11 - You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
