Margaret Mary Kolowski (Martin)

Margaret (Peg) Mary Kolowski, 81, passed away on November 1, 2024 at her home in Perkasie, PA, which she shared with her daughter Meg and her family.

She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph (Joe) P. Kolowski, who passed away in 2021 after more than 50 years of loving marriage.

Born February 6, 1943 in Bristol, PA, she was a daughter of the late William and Katherine (Sweeney) Martin. After graduating high school Peg decided to join the convent of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament in Bensalem, PA, spending part of her mission in New Orleans. Yet despite her deep faith, which she maintained and relied on throughout her life, she soon realized her calling was to start a family. In 1971 she met Joe, and they were engaged two and a half months later.

After marrying, she moved in with Joe and his parents and aunt, all immigrants from Poland who spoke little English, on a small family farm in Hatboro, PA. There Peg helped care for Joe’s family, and learned to cook delicious traditional Polish meals which would soon become tradition for her own family.

Although working for a time as a teacher at St. John Bosco Catholic Elementary school, where her own children were occasionally mortified to find her in their own classroom, her true passion was motherhood. She spent much of her life patiently raising and guiding her four children, then eventually spoiling her seven grandchildren, whom she adored. She sewed dresses for her daughters, and their daughters, and their dolls. Her generosity and kindness stretched far beyond her own family though, and she was considered a second mother by many. She filled her gardens with beautiful flowers, she filled her kitchen with sweet and savory aromas of home. But most important of all, she filled the house and every place she went with her rousing laughter, every single day. All who knew Peg knew and cherished her explosive and infectious laugh. It could not be avoided, nor could the joy that came with it.

It is this laughter and joy that will be missed most by her four children, Mary T. Bourdow (Gary), Meg M. Craig (Thomas), Joseph M. Kolowski (Valentine), and Matthew M. Kolowski (Amanda), her seven grandchildren, Jack, Madeline, Emma, Riley, Sophie, Finnegan, and James, and her two sisters, Kathy Garant and Mary Hannigan.

She was preceded in death by three siblings, James Martin, Bill Martin, and Mia Martin.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family Friday, November 8, 2024 from 10:00 am until the funeral mass at 11:00 am at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, 100 Broad Street, Hilltown. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham.

Contributions in Peg’s name can be made to the Fox Chase Cancer Center. www.Foxchase.org/giving Peg was first diagnosed with cancer 12 years ago. Since then the doctors and staff at Fox Chase not only helped her realize her dream to see her grandchildren grow, they also treated her with kindness, compassion and dignity.
