Carl B. Clark

Carl B. Clark of Langhorne, PA and formerly of Buckingham, PA and Feasterville, PA died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving and devoted family on Tuesday, October 29, 2024.  He was 92.

Carl was born in 1932 to the late B. Hayes Clark and his wife Hilda (Harman), raised on their farm in Baker's Summit, PA.  The family later moved to Claysburg, PA where Carl played all the sports available at the local high school.  It was there that he met Patty, the love of his life.  Shortly after they married, he was called to serve his country, inducted into the Army in February of 1953.  With the Korean conflict winding down, Carl and his unit shipped out to Europe in early 1954, serving most of his time in Trieste, Italy.  He spent a month in the hospital after injuring his knee playing football for the Army, joking many times to his kids later that he never got a Purple Heart.  However, he was always grateful that his Army service allowed him to go to college on the Gl Bill. He earned a degree in Physics and landed a teaching job at Council Rock High School in Newtown, PA in 1958.

As the family grew, Carl spent full days teaching, then coaching and assisting the athletics program in any way he could. He coached the Junior Varsity (9th grade) football team and assisted with Varsity football and baseball in the early years.  He also served as the equipment manager for all sports and coached the girls softball team to a State Championship. A few years after retirement, he was inducted into the Council Rock High School Hall of Fame for his dedication to the sports programs over 32 years.

Carl played many sports socially, well into his retirement. He enjoyed softball and the Bucks County Senior Games in Buckingham, and golf with his dear friends, The Hackers.  In his younger years, he coached his kids on multiple baseball and softball teams.  After he became a grandfather, he relished any chance to watch his grandkids and great-grandkids play as their #1 fan.  His lifelong enthusiasm for professional sports, especially his favorites in Pittsburgh, lead one dear friend to note on his passing, “The Steelers and Pirates have lost their greatest fan.”

Carl improved his position at the high school through its sabbatical program, spending many summers in advanced studies at Carnegie Mellon, Brown University, and the University of Pennsylvania.  For the 1962-63 school year, he and the family moved to State College, where he earned his MS degree in Physics at Penn State. He was a life-long learner, reading science journals and keeping up on news with daily newspapers.

Carl was a proud member of the North and Southampton Reformed Church. He served as deacon and elder, and helped the property committee care for the building. Carl sang in the choir for well over 50 years, until he was no longer able.

His greatest love was his family.  He called us his Legacy, so proud and full of love for every new addition by birth or by love.  Carl is survived by his loving wife Patricia M. Clark (McDonald); five loving children, Diane Juergensen (Bill), Allen Clark, Cris Clark (Jimmy), Jeff Clark (Nancy) and Gwen Wills (Steve); siblings Sidney Clark (Charlotte) and Thelma Campbell, as well as the late Vernon Clark, Virginia Hornick, Lloyd Clark, Bertha Clinich, Junior Clark, and Elwood Clark; ten grandchildren, Jamie, Jenny, Matthew, Amy, Dana, Hayes, Brian, Kaley, Brent and the late Adena; six great grandchildren, Clark, Fauna, Luke, Casey, Brennan and Florencia.

Carl's family will receive friends on Saturday, November 2, 2024 from 11am until his funeral service at 12pm at North and Southampton Reformed Church, 1380 Bristol Road in Churchville, PA. The interment services will be on November 5, 2024 at 10am at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Avenue, Newtown, PA.

The family is requesting memorial donations to be made in Carl's name to North and Southampton Reformed Church at  nsrc1710.ccbchurch.com or the Wounded Warrior Project at https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org.
