James "Poppy" William Tait

Jim "Poppy" Tait, aged 93, of Philadelphia, PA, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on June 21, 2024.  Born in Scranton, PA, Jim lived a life filled with love, dedication, and service.

Jim proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force, bravely fighting in the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, he began a long and distinguished career with Bell Telephone of Pennsylvania, where he dedicated 40 years of service before his retirement.

Jim was a devoted family man, beloved by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Lillian.  He is survived by his daughters Donna Diaz and her husband Philip, and Linda Kennedy and her husband Gary. He also leaves behind eight cherished grandchildren: Elizabeth (Jon), Philip (Haley), Christopher, Stephanie, Conor (Dan), Mollie (Anthony), Emily (Justin) and Jack; and four great-grandchildren (Philip Jr., Jonathan Philip, Vinny, and Lillian). Each one held a special place in his heart, and he was their constant source of wisdom and love.

Known to many as "Poppy," Jim was not only a wonderful grandfather but also a talented handyman who could fix just about anything. Watching the Philadelphia Eagles, playing ping pong and pickleball and cheering on his grandchildren during their sporting events were among his greatest passions.

Jim will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, dedication, and passion for life will forever be remembered.

A private service will be held to honor and celebrate Jim’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in his memory.
