Esther Marie Hall (Manente)
Esther Marie Hall, formerly a long-time resident of Doylestown, PA, died peacefully in the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 28, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She was 92 years young.
She was the devoted wife of the late Edwin F. Hall, with whom she shared a beautiful life and marriage of more than 50 years until his death in 2004. She was also preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy H. and David Presti, and son-in-law, Joseph V. Battipaglia.
Esther was born on September 15, 1928 to the late Dominick and Mary Manente, and she grew up in Plainfield, NJ. Upon graduation from a nursing program, Esther worked as a registered nurse for an obstetrician office, which she loved. It was during this time that she met her best friend and love of her life, Edwin “Ed” Hall, on a double date.
They married on May 3, 1953 and raised three children together in Fanwood, NJ. In 1962, when Ed was considering a relocation for work, Esther and Ed stumbled upon Doylestown, PA. They immediately fell in love with the charm and history of the town and moved their family there for good.
Her favorite pastimes were playing cards, people-watching, enjoying dinners out, and catching most if not all her children and grandchildren’s sports games and after-school activities. The highlights of every year were family holiday traditions, especially during Christmas.
Esther also loved to travel, whether it was to Atlantic City for a night ‘at the slots,’ or to Alaska and Italy on a cruise. She particularly loved spending summers down the beach in Lavallette, NJ. Esther had a quick wit, and her countless one-liners and stories will bring smiles and laughter for years to come.
Above all, Esther was ‘everyone’s Grandma,’ since she made everyone she met feel like family. She will be remembered for the sassy, genuinely joyful person she was, and for the twinkle in her eye, her signature belly laugh, and for never missing a nice dinner out with a cold glass of Kendall Jackson Chardonnay.
Esther is survived by her loving children, Mary Ann Battipaglia and Thomas E. Hall and his wife, Lisa. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Matthew Battipaglia and his wife, Kelly, Christen B. Carbone and her husband, Ross, Jeffrey Battipaglia, Samuel and Abigail Presti, and Kathryn and Thomas Hall; her great-grandchildren, Annie and Mia Jo Battipaglia, and her sister, Susan J. Detlefsen ,and her husband, John, of Cherry Hill, NJ.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Monday, May 3, 2021 from 10:00 AM until her funeral mass at 11:00AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 235 E. State Street, Doylestown, PA 18901. Her interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, adjacent to the church.
