Condolences for Kathryn "Katey" Howes (Marcinkowski)

Kimberly HarrisMonday, May 27th

As a teacher at Solebury I had the privilege of sharing a few conversations with Katy. She was a proud mama and delighted in talking about her children. My conversations with her were always full of kindness and warmth. As we mourn the sudden loss of Katy, let us also celebrate the beautiful life she lived. Let us find comfort in knowing that her beautiful spirit will continue to inspire us. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her children and husband. Katy’s light will continue to shine forever...she will be deeply missed, but not forgotten.

I spoke once to Katey as new author inspired by her beautiful picture books. She was kind and approachable and encouraging. I hope to live as she did, loving family, staying friends, and leaving a legacy of words.

May you and your family be wrapped in the love of all those who loved Katey.

As a former neighbour of Katie, and Michael, and their 3 lovely daughters, I am so heart saddened to hear of Katie‘s loss of life. Katie was such a wonderful, wonderful mother. I enjoyed watching her love and nurture her daughters the way only a mother could. I still remember the banana bread she baked for me and welcomed me into my new home. God bless the family, and may he give you the comfort you need at this time. Love your previous neighbour at 2 Sprague St. 😌❤️🙏🏽

As an author, I will miss Katey's exuberance for life and her positive attitude. Lucky to have met her in person at KWE last year and to have known her in that initial journey as an author. She is missed!

My thoughts and prayers to the family. Praying for God to give you the strength and courage in this horrible time.

Katey's light will shine within the countless people (adults and kids) she touched with her words and heart. Always. Past. Present. Future.

I was lucky to have had the opportunity to meet Katey at various ZS events with Michael. What I will always remember is her smiling, she was always so kind and bright. I also remember seeing Michael and Katey dancing at holiday parties, their love was so evident to anyone who met them. Michael, our thoughts and prayers are with you and the girls.

I met Katey at the 7th grade Halloween party. It was loud, wet and freezing on the Upper Field. She arrived and immediately started helping out. Talking to Katey was always fun; she had an excellent sense of humor and a delightful turn of phrase.
Two of our children have similar developmental issues and she gave me excellent parenting advice. She was always calm and reassuring when I found myself wondering if I was getting everything wrong.
Katey was also generous with her writing talent. Earlier this year I was having trouble getting my query letter just right and Katey kindly offered to look it over. Her feedback made all the difference.
Saying I’m sorry about her death can’t even get close to how awful it is to lose someone so devoted to her family, friends and the community. She really did make the world better.

So sorry to hear this. I didn't know Katey, but thoughts are with Michael, their children, and the whole Howes / Marcinkowski families.

Katrina MooreMonday, June 10th

Katey was a ray of sunshine in the children's literature community. She radiated positivity and warmth through every interaction she had with others. I was lucky to know her through the years, both as online friends, and meeting at various writing conferences. She was amazing, supportive, uplifting, talented, kind, down-to-earth, fun, and funny. Last year at the NJSCBWI conference in June, I told her how I was going to take the leap to write full time, and the way she lit up for me was so genuine and heartwarming. She supported each and every one of my books, and was always reaching out with new opportunities about writing retreat opportunities, regional conferences I maybe didn't know about, etc. And I know she did this for so many others, too. She had a golden heart and a wonderful way with words. Her spirit, and the beauty of the way she saw the world, will live on through her beautiful books. She had so much ahead for her. We will be cheerleaders for her upcoming books, and make sure they find their way into the world so that she may live eternally through the way she'll continue to touch others. Sending you all much love.

I knew Katey through many years of ZS events and I have truly admired her dedication and commitment to her passion and work of writing children's books. I was struck by the way Katey 'lived in the moment' wholeheartedly, with vibrance and joy. This is a rare and true gift to all of us.
