I met Les Severs back in 1981 at Whisky Junction in Florence NJ.
He happened to be visiting the club on a Wednesday night when I got up to do 2 songs with the band that was playing that night. His band Modern Country was playing there on the weekends. He graciously asked me if I would like to come in on the weekend and sing a couple with his band. Of course I was both surprised and honored at his offer. After that night I was a repeat guest of Les’s many times, giving me many opportunities which eventually led to me forming my first band and getting on the circuit.
Les was one of the most giving, and talented people I met in all my years of playing. He gave opportunities to many others besides me. He was my mentor, and coach, and for his kindness and friendship, I will be forever grateful.
God bless you Les, you were the best.

I am very saddened a the passing of my favorite Singer and good friend. Les was my mentor in many ways. He had the purest voice of any singer that ever sang a country song. There will never be another like him. Rest in Peace my friend and show the Angels how to sing .

A long time ago, my husband who went under the guitar player name of Lou Lucas, joined Les along with Benny Lawson (steel guitar), Hutch( drummer) and Jim Thompson (bass player). For several weeks, they played in Buffalo, NY. I loved the songs that he sang and remember the fun times they all had together. My deepest sympathy to his family for his loss. I have some photos that I'll be sending to the funeral home and I'll ask them to give them to his family.

We met Les at the Red Carpet Lounge in Trenton, NJ. We were so impressed with his enthusiasm for music and sharing his amazing talent. His voice was so pure and strong! We were shocked when he asked us to come up and play with his band. I was so nervous, and Chip handed me his bass that hung down to my knees, LOL. Les was SO supportive, and every time we saw him, he always encouraged us to play. When I finally made a CD of my songs and sent them to him, he said he really enjoyed them. He was never competitive with other artists and gave freely of his time to many other musicians. He lived joyously and now he is (I believe) joyously reunited with Barb and happy once again.
God Bless you, Les Severs! We've lost a great one in you... shoes that will never be filled.
Sincere condolences to his family and numerous friends.

Love,
Debbie & Clyde Simpkins

Les was such a wonderful entertainer, be it on the air, or on stage.
But I often thought his most precious talent was his ability to make others feel good. I'm sure part of that was his smile, so easily shared and sincerely given, but not to be overlooked was his magnetic personality. It mirrored his soul. Les was genuinely a nice person.
It was my pleasure and good fortune to have worked with Les at WEEZ Radio. If I had any question (and I had many) about a star, or a song, Les was always there with the answer.
Rest in Peace dear friend.
And thank you.

I played lead guitar for Les back in1973 and 74. 6 nights a week for 15 months. The band also included Billy Pfender on drums and Jimmy Leback on bass and vocals. Both of these guys were killer musicians. We never practiced..we worked out arrangements on stage. I never played with anyone even near to this group.Sadly, both these gentlemen passed away and now Les. Oh well ,I will catch up. Les made me a better player than i ever thought possible. I will always be grateful to him for the faith he had in my playing. I'm81 and looking forward to rejoining the guys. Rip guys.
