As one of Jack’s “bear cubs” I can best describe Jack’s passion and determination as akin to a force of nature. As a young person just starting out on a career Jack’s enthusiasm was infectious and while sometimes it felt like you were caught up and being whirled around in this great wave of countless ideas and expectations, he was always there to reach out a hand to steady and guide you through the rapids. He worked hard and expected others to work hard too. But he knew that the secret to being able to work hard and achieve excellence was not just having pride in what you do, but also finding the joy and fun in a job well done. He had a special knack for helping this ranch girl from Nebraska believe in her own abilities and dare to be bold in her ambitions. His championing of community development efforts both within the bank and in the broader business community brought talent and resources to numerous neglected neighborhoods. It was a privilege to call Jack Neary my mentor and friend. His absence in this material world will be a huge hole but the memories he built with his friends, colleagues, and most of all his family will continue to spread joy and laughter. Deepest sympathy to Irene and all of Jack's family. You were all his greatest pride and joy.
