Condolences for John Nemeth

Angel TomezMonday, August 19th

Although I never had the pleasure of meeting John in person (to my great regret!), his wonderful spirit and attitude about life came shining through the people around him, who loved him. I will miss very much hearing about the next warm and amazing “John story”. My sincere condolences to all those who knew John.

Dear Joanne & family,
So sorry to hear about John’s passing. We were neighbors for many years in Newtown Grant and our kids grew up together. John & I also worked together in Hopewell Valley. We hope you’ll find peace in all the memories you made together. Sincerely, Grace & Phil Merlino

To John's family so sorry for your loss. I first met John in the early 70's when we both served in the same Army Reserve unit out of Fort Hancock, NJ. Little did i know our paths would cross again in 1979/80 when I became a fellow SBA. During the next 35 plus years as fellow BA's John was always there for me as the new kid on the block. Not only was John a colleague but I considered him a friend that I will miss very much.

We will truly miss our dear neighbor John. Our thoughts are with Joanne and family… we are very saddened by his passing. We choose to remember John for those things that brought him the most joy… playing in the yard with his grandkids, suiting up for his weekend bicycle rides, or the day he came home with his well-deserved Ford Mustang. Our neighborhood was a much better place with John Nemeth. With love, Bob and Marge Nakao

To the Nemeth family, I am so sorry to hear of John's passing. A true gentleman in every sense of the word. He treated everyone he encountered with kindness and respect. He was a very special man and I am glad I was able to call him a friend. He will be missed by all that knew him.

Dear Joanne, My heart breaks for you and your children. The world is a sadder place without John. I am away and won’t be able to attend the services, but send my most sincere sympathies. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Nancy

Joanne and family, I am so very sorry to hear of John's passing. I consider John not only a colleague and a mentor, but also a friend. I have known John since the late 1970's when I was working in the NJDOE in Trenton. After I got my BA certificate, my first position was the County BA in Union, and I knew nothing about facilities. John volunteered to help me, and we inspect three middle schools in Plainfield on a hot summer day. I was glad to see John and have lunch together with our fellow ECBOs in May. John will be greatly missed.

Today we say goodbye to a gentleman of sterling character and piercing intelligence, all hidden behind an ever-present, lurking sense of humor. One knew this even on first meeting, since John could only with effort hide the sparkle in his eyes. John was exemplary in the art of civility in all things, especially all things political. He saved many nasty situations with his modest dignity and with his ability to find just the right human touch, at the right time. Another pillar of our civic life has left the room, and the lights are dimmer. To Joanne and John’s extensive family, our prayers and condolences carry the hope that grieving your loss is accompanied by the considerable pride you may take knowing so many of us stand in awe of this gentleman’s accomplishments.
