Ofelia "Lia" Benedetto

Ofelia Benedetto, of Southampton, PA, passed away suddenly on October 9, 2024, aged 79 years. ”Lia” was born on December 18th, 1944 in Montenero di Bisaccia, Italy, the youngest child of mother Louisa and father Bergamo Benedetto, who had nine children, of whom only four lived beyond their first year. Lia immigrated to America on Thanksgiving Day 1955 to begin a new life with her parents and siblings.  A loving lady with an independent spirit and keen aptitude for business, she had a successful career as a business manager and book-keeper for Modern Coat Company, where she was employed for nearly 30 years.

Lia was passionate about life. She loved to travel to her home country of Italy to visit friends and family, and enjoyed conversing about politics and popular culture. Her flair for creative Italian cooking was well known, as she prepared countless memorable meals for her family and friends over the years. She was also an excellent baker and will always be remembered for her extraordinary Italian cream puffs that she made each year for the holidays and for family get-togethers. Lia was very social with friends and neighbors … and, above all, she loved her family deeply. While she never married nor had children of her own, this dedication to family was her defining quality, as she was always very generous, supportive, and sincerely vested in every aspect of their lives.

Lia is survived by her dear sister, Cesira D’Amelio; sister-in-law Anna Benedetto; nieces and nephews Peter Gallelli and wife Sandra, Victoria Farricker and husband Martin, David Gallelli, Mario D’Amelio and wife Jennifer, Barbara Pogson and husband John, as well as grand nephews and nieces Nina Berault; Julia Gallelli; Sarah Mitchell; Emily, Martin and Lisa Farricker; Dominic and Gabriela Gallelli, Andrew Pogson, and Luca D’Amelio. She is predeceased by her beloved parents, Bergamo and Louisa Benedetto, brother Alfredo Benedetto, sister Italia Gallelli and her husband Pietro, brother-in-law Mario D’Amelio and nephew, Marcello Benedetto.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Visitation on Saturday, October 19, 2024, 9:00 am at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 611 Knowles Ave, Southampton, PA 18966.
