Clare Joyce (Smith) Roepcke of Langhorne, PA, died peacefully at home on October 9, 2024. She was 95.

Clare was the beloved wife of 72 years to Dr. Eiko “Ike” Roepcke.

Born in Morrisville, PA on September 13, 1929 she was the daughter of Francis A. and Mary Wright Smith. Clare graduated from Morrisville High School and Rider College.

On Christmas Day, 1949 Clare met the love of her life at a dance at Mammoth Casino in Penndel. Ike was a student at the University of Pennsylvania Dental School and a WWII veteran. They married on April 12, 1952, shortly before his graduation.

Clare was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was part of Ike’s dental practice from the beginning by sending him patients from US Steel where she worked in Personnel and then as his office manager and “greeter”. She was active in community affairs including chairing publicity for the Newtown Friends School Building Fund and being secretary of the St. Mary’s Hospital Women’s Guild.

Clare was preceded in death by her parents; her two sisters, Marie McTamney (Edward) and Sara Binker (John); and her nephew Edward F. McTamney (Joyce).

In addition to her husband, Clare is survived by her children, Brenda Roepcke Palmer and Dwight Roepcke (Madeline); grandchildren, Deanna Roepcke Longjohn (Nathaniel) and Mikayla Roepcke; niece Mary Binker Compton (Daniel), grandnieces Caren McTamney Cronin (Scott) and Cathleen McTamney Bohning (J. Matthew); great-nephew and great-nieces Alden Cronin, Lily Bohning and Julia Bohning.

Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Road (at Holland Road) Richboro, PA 18954 and on Thursday, October 17th from 10am – 11am at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 100 E. Washington Ave., Newtown, PA 18940 immediately followed by her 11am Communion Service. Interment is to follow at Newtown Cemetery, Newtown, PA.

Clare’s family is grateful to the caring staff at Chandler Hall Hospice, to her special caregiver, Katie and to Sue - who always made sure she looked her best. Clare was born on a Friday the 13th and Ike has always said it was the luckiest day of his life.
