Barbara A. Gallen (Lindenhofen)

Barbara A. Gallen, born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Anna Marie (Leonard) and Robert Edward Lindenhofen on January 11, 1942.  Barbara was a resident of Newtown, Pennsylvania for over 30 years.  She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 6, 2024.

Barbara was the beloved wife of Robert A. Gallen for 62 years, the loving mother of Barbara Ann Pyne (Frank); and Denise Marie Monaghan (John), and devoted grandmother to Chelsey Conner, (Bobby); Ashley Monaghan, and Hailey Monaghan.

Barbara is survived by her sisters Teresa Vesotsky, (Barry); Donna Moree, (William); and Patricia Semola, (John).  Survived also by her sisters in law Rose Lindenhofen, Ella Lindenhofen, and many nieces and nephews.  She is predeceased by her siblings, Anna Marie Adams, Roberta Mazur, Robert Lindenhofen, Edward Lindenhofen, and Kathleen Lindenhofen.

Barbara started her journey of faith and devotion to Mary at Saint Edwards Catholic School in Philadelphia. Her love of basketball started at an early age and in 7th grade she won a foul shooting contest making 21 out of 25 shots.  She was a proud alumna of John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls High School where she graduated in 1959.  There, she was a varsity basketball player who was a valuable scorer.  She led the Blue and Whiters in scoring and once led them to victory with a buzzer beating shot for a final score of 34-32.

Barbara’s greatest pleasure was marrying her high school sweetheart and together raising their family.  Along with Bob, she created a warm, loving home filled with love, laughter, and family.  After making sure her daughters had a Catholic education from grade school through college, she then attained her dream to go to college.  She attended the School of Continuing Studies at night and obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration in 1993 with the distinction of Magna Cum Laude from LaSalle University.  She was awarded with the Hugh Carol Award for her significant contribution to the School of Continuing Studies.

Barbara’s work ethic and dedication allowed her to work until the age of 77.  She ended her career as a Human Resource Administrator at Foley Cat in Bensalem, Pennsylvania.  Her most treasured memories were summer vacations in Ocean City with her family.  She looked forward to celebrating holidays and upholding the traditions associated with them.  Friday night dinners with her family were something she looked forward to each week.  One of the greatest joys she had in her life was being Mimi to Chelsey, Ashley, and Hailey.  Barbara’s Faith in God was extraordinary. She recited the rosary daily, along with many other novenas. She drew strength from her devotion to Padre Pio. Praying for others was of utmost importance to her.  Through her example, we have learned to trust in God and to live a life in Christ.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet her family on Monday, October 14, 2024, from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the Church of Saint Andrew 81 Swamp Road, Newtown, PA 18940, followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00.  Rite of Committal All Saints Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the National Centre for Padre Pio. https://www.padrepio.org/donate
