Albert "Al" Colbert

Albert (Al) Joseph Colbert passed peacefully in his home in Venice, Florida on Monday, September 23, 2024 after courageously battling cancer for over two years. He was surrounded by his loving wife of 56 years, Marilyn (Connor) Colbert, and his two devoted children, Christine (Colbert) Roberts and Jason Colbert. Al was the only son of the late Miriam (Gallagher) Colbert and the late Albert Buffardi. He was subsequently adopted by his father, the late Charles F. Colbert.

Al grew up in North Philadelphia at a time when playing stick ball in the street was a favorite pass time. The Tastykake plant was right in the neighborhood, the Phillies played at Connie Mack Stadium and his favorite cheesesteak was 65 cents. He attended Corpus Christi grade school where he met the love of his life, Marilyn, at age 13. He graduated from LaSalle High School and attended LaSalle College. He was proud to be from Philly and became a lifelong Phillies and Eagles fan.

Al and Marilyn started their family and moved to Northeast Philadelphia where Al began working at the Budd Company, fixing electrical components in Septa train cars. Soon he decided to switch career tracks and ventured into real estate, building his career for over 15 years. He moved his family to Bucks County, Pennsylvania where he continued to work diligently helping people find the perfect home. In the late 80’s, Al embraced his entrepreneurial spirit, co-founding both a real estate and a mortgage banking business. Academy Affiliates Mortgage Company eventually became his own company and he thrived as a small business owner.

Of all of his successes in life, his family and friends were his true source of pride and happiness. He was cherished by his seven grandchildren, Anna, Dylan, William, Kayla, Megan, Ryan and Brady. He left them a lifetime of wonderful memories from special holidays and fun vacations to many summers down the shore in Sea Isle City, NJ. Papa/Grandpa loved making all of his grandchildren happy and watching them grow into incredible young adults.

Al is best known for his helpful, friendly manner and kind heart. He always looked on the bright side of life, hoping for peace. He was always generous, graciously opening his homes in Sea Isle City, NJ and Venice, FL to friends and family alike. Along with family visits, some of his best times in retirement were spent golfing with his buddies and enjoying countess laughs with his friends.

Over his lifetime, his favorite places to travel included St. Croix, USVI, Italy and Ireland. He was a fantastic, self-taught cook of yummy Italian dishes and then some.

Al is survived by his wife, Marilyn Colbert, daughter, Christine Roberts and her husband Clint, son Jason Colbert and his wife Karen (West), grandchildren Anna Roberts, Dylan Colbert, William Roberts, Kayla Colbert, Megan Colbert, Ryan Roberts, Brady Colbert, and the many adoring nieces and nephews who poured out their love and support throughout his life. He is predeceased by his sister, Charlene Mercante, and survived by his sister, Theresa Colbert, sister, Mary Cid and her husband Francisco, brother Charles Colbert and his wife Pam (Leonetti), sister Colleen Mroz and her husband Bob.
