Sonya Luvis

Sonya Luvis was called home to heaven on September 20, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 10 years old. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her beloved parents: Maria and Marlon Luvis, her cherished baby siblings, Gabriella and Lorenzo Luvis. Grandparents: Vincenzo and Holly Romano, Ramon and Sonia Luvis, great grandmother, Penny Gail Cranmer, Aunts and Uncles: Bryan Luvis and his fiancé Haley Hansen, Alivia and Antonino Romano, cousins: Nara Luvis and Santo Romano, and her very best friend and ‘soul sister, ’ Mariama Barrie, who brought her much comfort during her struggle.

Sonya was a bright light of a personality. She loved learning, making friends, knock- knock jokes, playing pranks, and watching movies and cuddling with family. She loved to dress up and wear jewelry. Sonya held many talents and enjoyed drawing, coloring, reading and listening to music. Sonya loved getting together with family and friends including: sleepovers with Mariama, making dance videos with Zia, going camping and on hikes with family, receiving visits from her Abuelo Ramon and Tio Bryan. She was also a deeply caring soul and loved checking in on her Geegum and having her over for dinner; visits with her Aunt Sammy Sam, and getting special postcards from her cousins Keara and Matthew. Sonya also loved to remind her nonno Vincenzo that he was loved best of all by her, “I love you more, Nonno” often ended their telephone conversations. Sonya delighted in her role as a big sister and adored her baby brother and sister, loved spending special time with her mommy and daughter dates and hanging out at the barbershop with papi. She will be dearly missed by all who love her, and always remembered as a bright shining ray of love and light to all who knew her.

Through her courageous battle, Sonya loved and appreciated all the nurses, doctors and aids from the Ronald McDonald House and Memorial Sloan Kettering who cared for her with love and compassion the family will never forget.
