Thomas B. Swartley Service Information

Thomas Barry Swartley, 79, of Doylestown, PA, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Tom was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, whose life was defined by his deep love for family, faith, friends, and a commitment to his community.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Ginny; his children, Matthew (Nicole) and Megan (Sean) Moran; his cherished grandchildren, Juniper and Jakob (Clarisse), his sister Loretta Weitzel; and several nieces and nephews, all of whom he deeply adored. He was preceded in death by his brother James.

Tom graduated from Souderton High School in 1962, where he met his wife Ginny, and continued his education at Ursinus College, graduating in 1966. He then earned a Certificate of Physical Therapy from the University of Pennsylvania in 1967. Following his academic pursuits,Tom proudly served in the United States Army at Walson Army Hospital in Fort Dix, New Jersey.

Tom was a Physical Therapist for over 40 years at various facilities, the last 20 years at Foulkeways at Gwynedd, where he was a compassionate caregiver to all his patients.

A faithful and long-standing member of Doylestown Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years, Tom served as Elder, Sunday School teacher, and Property and Finance Committee member. Known for always lending a hand, he even took on the role of "driving the van" to help those needing transportation. His warmth, faith, and service were a blessing to all who knew him.

Tom’s community involvement extended beyond the church. He was a former member of the Doylestown Area Jaycees and coached his children’s DAA baseball, softball, and basketball teams.

Throughout his life, Tom remained active and healthy. He played tennis and racquetball in his younger years, enjoyed riding his bicycle, and loved spending time on the golf course. Most of all, Tom loved walking, finding peace and joy in staying active. Additionally, he was an avid photographer with a keen eye for capturing moments, and a loyal supporter of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Tom could often be heard telling a joke with a smile, cutting a cartoon out of the newspaper to send to his children or grandchildren, or whistling around the house. He enjoyed family time in Ocean City, New Jersey, and traveling in the US, Canada, and Europe with Ginny.

Tom’s legacy of kindness, faith, and dedication to his family will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His passion for life and service will never be forgotten.

A visitation will take place on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Doylestown Presbyterian Church starting at 9:00 AM, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM.
