Robert A. Nelis

Robert Alan Nelis, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on Tuesday, August 27th, 2024, in Doylestown, PA.

Robert (Bob) was the beloved husband of the late Justine N. (Libudziewski) Nelis, and he is surely delighted to finally be reunited with the love of his life.

He is survived by his devoted children, Robert J. Nelis and wife Jeanna, and Christine N. Snyder and husband Bradley; grandchildren Patrick Nelis, Gillian Snyder, and Ben Snyder; sisters (the late) Carla A. Nelis, Elaine Joseph and husband Larry, Judy Pribanic and husband Chuck; brother-in-law Richard Libudziewski and wife Simone; nieces & nephews Lauren, Eric, Suzanne, Michael, and Gregory, along with many cherished cousins and dear friends.

Born in Pittsburgh, PA on January 2, 1938, Bob was the son of the late Charles and Mildred (Nair) Nelis. He was always “Bobby” the big brother to sisters Carla, Elaine, and Judy.

Bob enjoyed a diverse professional career as a steel worker, high school teacher, country club & hotel general manager, and realtor.

After high school graduation, Bob spent several years working at Jones & Laughlin Steel before matriculating at Indiana State Teachers College in Indiana, PA. While there he joined the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and developed numerous life-long friendships.

Like many of his contemporaries at the time, Bob’s education was temporarily interrupted when he joined the US Army and spent a year in Korea on the DMZ. After his service he completed his teaching degree and taught high school for a number of years.

Always looking to better himself, Bob returned to college and earned a B.S. in Hospitality Management from Cornell University. While there he coached their freshman basketball team.

After a successful career managing several country clubs, hotels, and resorts, Bob eventually relocated to Ocean City, MD, and began a new chapter in his life selling real estate.

In his free time Bob loved to paint, cook, sit on the beach, golf, and follow his favorite Pittsburgh sports teams. He was always generous in sharing his talents as an artist and chef. He would delight family and friends each year with beautiful hand painted Christmas cards, as well as his famous pumpkin bread if you were lucky enough to live close by.

Bob knew how to bring humor to every situation. He was a prankster, always looking to catch you with a straight faced “tall tale” of some type only to end with everyone doubled over in laughter. Even during the most challenging of times, Bob could always keep Justine laughing.

Bob’s care and devotion to Justine during her long illness was a perfect example of the selfless love of a true marriage and was an inspiration to his family.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet Bob’s family on Saturday, September 7, 2024, from 9:30 am until the start of his Funeral Mass at 10:30 am, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 235 E. State St., Doylestown, PA. Interment with Military Honors will take place immediately following at Calvary Cemetery in West Conshohocken.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations in Bob’s memory be made to the Folds of Honor Foundation, https://foldsofhonor.org or any Veterans-related charity.
