William J. Steiger

William J. “Bill” Steiger of Churchville, PA, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving and devoted family on Friday, August 23, 2024. He was 90.

Bill was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. During the Korean War, he was stationed in the UK where he met Carol, his beloved wife of 68 years.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late William J. and Alice Steiger, brother of Alice Kilian and the late Mary Elliot, and was the loving father of the late Robert and William.

He worked as a treasury analyst for the Budd Company in Hunting Park, and served his Local UAW 757 and, before his retirement, was the President of the Local.

In the 1970s, Bill enjoyed coaching his sons and their teammates in CYO basketball at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church.

Over the years, Bill and Carol enjoyed celebrating many special occasions at their favorite dining spot, the William Penn Inn, and, although dining at the restaurant was not possible this summer, they marked their 68th wedding anniversary together at home with takeout from there.

After retiring, they enjoyed attending daily morning Mass at St. Vincent de Paul, until Bill's illness made it too difficult to do so. They also participated in Bible studies, church sponsored trips and events.

Throughout his life, Bill enjoyed listening to various types of music, and, particularly in recent months, often called out, “OK Google, play Anne Murray!”, to which he clapped along and sometimes also sang along with a satisfied smile on his face.

In addition to his wife Carol, Bill is survived by his son Richard Steiger and his wife Julie; and a sister, Alice Kilian (Phil). He is also survived by four grandchildren: Jennifer (Brian), Holly, William (Lindsey), and Allison; five great grandchildren: Taryn, Christopher, Ella, Ava, and Bryson; and a great great granddaughter, Ivy. Bill also happily anticipated the fall birth of his great grandson, Liam Michael.

Bill’s family will receive friends on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at 10:30 AM until his Funeral Mass at 11:30 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 654 Hatboro Road (at Tanyard Rd.) Richboro, PA 18954. His interment with Military Funeral Honors will follow at 1:30 PM at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown.

In lieu of flowers, William would want you to express your love to those you value, as he would often do, especially in his final years.
