Louis F. Busico

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Louis “Lou” Frank Busico, who left us at the age of 89 after a brief and courageous battle with metastatic lung cancer.

Lou was the cherished son of the late Rocco and Grace Busico (née Pinto). He is survived by his devoted wife, Elizabeth “Betty” (née Raimo), with whom he shared 64 years of love, laughter, and treasured memories. They were truly inseparable.

Lou was a proud and loving father to his children: Louis (Linda) Busico, Carolyn (Kevin) Flynn, and Carla (Michael) Rafferty. He was also a doting grandfather to Louis, Lauren, Grace, Vincent, Max, Elizabeth, and Brooke, each holding a special place in his heart.

Born and raised in Philadelphia as the only child of Italian immigrants, Lou embodied the values of hard work and family. He graduated from Southeast Catholic High School in 1952, where he excelled in baseball and earned a place in their Varsity Hall of Fame. He continued his education and passion for baseball at St. Joseph’s University, graduating in 1957. It was in his passion for baseball that brought him the love of his life, Betty, whose father was his coach.

Lou honorably served as a medic in the Army National Guard for six years, where he exhibited his caring spirit for his fellow servicemen.  In 1959, Lou began his professional career with Strawbridge & Clothier as an executive trainee. His dedication and leadership saw him rise to the position of Vice President and General Merchandise Manager of the Clover Division in 1979. He was a proud member of the Strawbridge & Clothier family for 37 years. Over the last 15 years, Lou became an integral part of his son’s law firm, where he managed the office with precision and enriched each day with his unique sense of humor.

Lou’s bond with his grandchildren was extraordinary. He never missed a game, school event, or any occasion to celebrate them. At every family gathering, which were frequent and joyous, he would raise his glass, give thanks, and end with his heartfelt motto, “Sempre Famiglia” – Always Family. He taught his children and grandchildren the vital role of family in shaping our lives, showing them that giving and love are boundless.

In his leisure, Lou enjoyed winters in Marco Island, the racetrack, crosswords, golf, watching the Phillies, and going to lunch with his beloved Betty. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially a Sunday dinner shared with a bowl of macaroni and gravy. His life was a testament to love, dedication, and the importance of family.

Friends and family are invited to attend Lou’s visitation on Friday, August 16, 2024, from 6:00PM to 8:00PM and on Saturday, August 17, 2024, from 9:30AM until his Funeral Mass at 10:30AM at St. Ignatius of Antioch Catholic Church, 999 Reading Avenue, Yardley, PA 19067.  His entombment will follow at All Saints Cemetery in Newtown.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Center for Autism Research at CHOP, In Memory of Louis Frank Busico, 5th Floor, 734 Schuylkill Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19146 or use the link https://give2.chop.edu/give/420556/#!/donation/checkout

Lou’s legacy of love, generosity, and family will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
