Joseph J. McBride, 77 years old of Ocean View, DE passed away on August 8, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Joe was the beloved husband of Catherine McBride (Searle). They shared 55 years of friendship, laughter, love and family.

Born in the Flatiron section of Philadelphia to the late Joseph and Beatrice McBride (Schilling), Joe was a parishioner of St. Anne’s Catholic Church. He graduated from North Catholic in 1964 and then served his country in the US Army as a Sergeant until 1967. Joe was the recipient of two Purple Heart medals while serving in Vietnam.

He went on to become a Philadelphia Police Officer serving the city for 32 years in the 7th, 8th, 22nd Districts, Major Crimes Unit and Detective Headquarters. He retired in 2003.

When not working for the PPD, Joe enjoyed many years serving the community as a member and as President for the Moss Athletic Association in Wissinoming. His dedication to youth sports and the development of boys and girls in the neighborhood was admired. Joe was also a highly respected High School & Collegiate Football Official, a High School Basketball Official as well as a High School & Collegiate Softball Umpire. While he loved the competition and games, it was through these organizations that he met and cherished some of his best lifelong friends.

After retirement, Joe & Cathy moved to the Poconos. Joe stayed busy as a bartender and manager in the Towamensing Trails Community. He enjoyed playing golf with friends and was a founding father of the TLTC Golf Tournament held annually. After 30 years in the Poconos, his final stop was Ocean View, DE.
