Joseph William Black Jr.

Joseph William Black, Jr. died at home in Richboro, PA, on Sunday, July 14, 2024 with his wife and family by his side after a long and incredibly brave battle against prostate cancer and leukemia. He was 75 years old.

Joseph was the beloved husband of Kathryn E Jackson Black. The couple shared over 55 years of love, friendship and family.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, Joseph was the son of the late Joseph W Sr and Regina T Ford Black. He graduated from Father Judge high school in 1966 and joined the US Navy where he was eventually stationed in Hawaii.  He worked in food retail with Acme Markets and A&P until retiring in 2010.  He then became a school bus driver with First Student and drove the kids in Council Rock school district.

After being diagnosed with terminal stage four cancer in 2018, Joseph never lost his hope and positivity. His doctors were constantly surprised and impressed by his strength, courage, and bright outlook, even after hearing grim news.

In addition to his wife Kathryn, Joseph will be missed by his children, Joseph W Black III, Amy “Mimi” Widmer, Kevin P Black and his wife Kasey, and Megan Black Manes. Pop-Pop was probably most proud of his seven grandchildren: Gavin, Avery, Bryce, Caylee, Kameron, Kellin, and Kashton. He relished his time with each of them, after which he always commented on how well-behaved the kids were (even when they clearly were not!).

Relatives and friends are invited to greet Joseph’s family on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 from 10:00am, until the start of his Funeral Mass at 11:30am at St. Vincent de Paul Church at 654 Hatboro Road in Richboro, PA 18954. His interment, with military honors, will follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Leukemia Research Foundation.
