James Joseph Barrett
James “Jim” Barrett, 78 years old from Washington Crossing, PA (formerly of Richboro) passed away on January 18th surrounded by his loving family.
Jim graduated Scranton Central High School in 1962. He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Scranton in 1967, after which he served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Jim became a Certified Public Accountant in 1981, and was an auditor with the Internal Revenue Service for over 39 years.
An avid reader, Jim was never without a book. He enjoyed the various activities in his community especially playing Bocce and Men’s dinner club. He was exceptionally proud of his Irish heritage and enjoyed several trips to Ireland during his lifetime.
Jim was a patient and loving husband; he and Margie were blessed to celebrate 50 years of marriage this past summer surrounded by friends and family. A devoted father, Jim could often be found on the sidelines of his children’s athletic events or in the audience for their performances. He encouraged both his children to pursue their passions for science, never stop learning, work hard, and show kindness and compassion to all. Jim’s grandchildren were the light of his later years, and he cherished time spent with family.
Jim was born in Scranton, PA in 1945 to the late Dr. Eugene and Alice Brogan Barrett. He is survived by his loving wife Margie Finigan Barrett; his children, Megan Mohl and her husband John of Holland, PA and Brendan Barrett and his wife Kate Tiedeman of Konstanz, Germany; brother Gene Barrett and his wife Elaine, sister Barbara Barrett, and sister-in-law Nancy Barrett; grandchildren, Andrew, William, Tobin, Teddy and Maya, and multiple nieces and nephews.
