Jane McGinley (McVeagh)

Jane McGinley of Doylestown peacefully departed at home on Monday May 9, 2022 with her daughter, Mary Jane, and granddaughter, Lisa, at her side. She was 98.

She was the beloved wife of Bob McGinley, who preceded her in death in April 2008. They were married for 64 years.

She was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Montgomery) McVeagh.

Jane was born on Ruby Street in SW Philadelphia in 1923, where she resided until 1969 when she and Bob moved to Mays Landing NJ. In 2001, she and Bob moved to Doylestown PA to be close to their daughter Mary Jane, who cared for both of them during their later years.

Jane worked for the Pennsylvania railroad before leaving work to raise her children. In the 1970s, Jane returned to work at Prudential Insurance, in Linwood NJ, before retiring in 1986.

She was a very devoted wife to her Bobby dear. After retiring, they loved to travel to Florida to visit her sister Dolores Sfarnas (and husband John and their extended family). Jane and Bob enjoyed dining out at Ye Olde Mill St Pub, Mays Landing NJ and the Sweetwater Casino.

She loved crocheting blankets and in her final years she continued “her project” by crocheting coasters for her friends and family. Jane looked forward to a good happy hour with a Brandy alongside cheese and crackers, Steve Harvey on Family Feud, and Lawrence Welk on Saturday evenings. She could sing along to the Big Band music, of the 40s and 50s, into her final days.

Jane appreciated people and their stories. She had the ability to make you feel like the most important person in the world when you shared your time with her. Jane was incredibly funny and she loved to laugh. She could find so much joy in the simplest things in life. Her smile and her laugh could light up any room.

Jane is survived by her daughter, Mary Jane Atkinson and her granddaughters Jennie Montgomery (husband Dave) of Snohomish WA, and Lisa Miller (husband Bob and children Jeremy and Laina) of Ottsville PA; her son, William McGinley, and his wife Diane, of Absecon NJ; and grandchildren Kern McGinley (wife Ann and children Drake and Cade), of Anchorage AK, Ryan McGinley (wife Jennifer and children Connor and Katie) of Beachwood NJ, Jaime Long (husband Rich and children Austin and Emily) of Fort Myers FL, Kyle Brewster McGinley (husband Paul) of Teaneck NJ.

Relatives and friends are invited to join in a celebration of her life from 12:00 noon to 5PM on Sunday May 22, at Mary Jane’s home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the Gift of Life Family House in honor of son, Bill McGinley. Mail to: Gift of Life Donor Program 401 North 3rd St Philadelphia PA 19123.
