Kathryne A. Lyons (Young)

Kay A. Lyons of Newtown died peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 10, 2022.  She was 83.

Kay was the beloved wife of 54 years to the late Thomas A. Lyons, Jr.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Kay was the daughter of the late Joseph E. and Elizabeth M. Smith Young and sister to the late Francis X.

Kay was a proud graduate of the Class of 1957 from Little Flower High School in Philadelphia.  Her career with the Federal Government spanned three decades.   She started at the Census Bureau before being promoted to the Department of Defense, where she was famous for her long, fast, daily walks on the Naval Depot.  Kay was devoted to her Church and believed in the importance of a strong cup of black coffee to start the day.   She enjoyed watching General Hospital and the Phillies and could be counted on to know the emerging news in any of the cities in which her children lived even before they did.  She loved long drives up and down the East Coast and days spent at the Jersey Shore and in the sun.  Kay valued education and reading, especially the Harry Potter series.  Above all, Kay cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren, of whom she was inordinately proud.  Kay will be greatly missed but eternally loved by everyone who had the opportunity to have been in her life and loved by her.

Kay is survived by her loving and devoted children: Kathryne Josephine Lyons and her husband Jonathan Teplitz of Manhattan, Thomas A. Lyons III and his wife Kyra of Silver Spring, MD, Peter Lyons and his wife Susan of Pittsburgh, and Joan Lyons-McGinley and her husband John of Holland.  She is also survived by her dear grandchildren: James Aloysius Lyons, Alexandra Rose Teplitz, Kayleigh Joan McGinley, Garrett William Lyons, Maura Kathryn Lyons, Fiona Elizabeth McGinley, Charlotte Niamh Teplitz, Owen Patrick McGinley, Benjamin Thomas Lyons and Niamh Sheridan McGinley, her sister Elizabeth Daley (Francis), her brothers Joseph Young (Sandra) and Vincent Young (Maryellen), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kay’s family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 from 10:00AM until her Funeral Mass 11:30AM in St. Andrew Catholic Church, 81 Swamp Rd. Newtown, PA 18940.  Her Interment will take place Thursday, May 19, 2022 at 9:30AM at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Rd. Newtown, PA 18940.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Guardians of the National Cemetery, PO Box 233 Newtown, PA 18940.
