Anna and Mahlon Hornung (Murphy)
Anna T. Hornung of Bensalem, died peacefully at her home on Thursday, May 5, 2022. She was 94. Mahlon E. Hornung, Jr. of Bensalem, died peacefully on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at Juniper Village Nursing Center in Bensalem. He was 94.
Anna and Mahlon Hornung shared 71 years of marriage.
Born in Philadelphia, Anna was the daughter of the late Francis and Theresa Feglestahler Murphy and Mahlon was born in Clementon, NJ, and was the son of the late Mahlon E. and May Dempsey Hornung. He was preceded in death by his 3 siblings Leslie, Gene and Doris.
Anna was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her beloved family. Anna and her husband Mahlon raised their children on the family farm in Bensalem and loved it when the grandchildren would come to visit. Anna was an avid bowler and she cherished her weekly Saturday lunches with her sister. Anna will be greatly missed but eternally remembered by everyone who has had the pleasure to have been in her life and loved by her.
Mahlon enlisted in the United States Marine Coprs at a young age and served for 4 years. He fought on Iwo Jima and Tarawa during World War II and also served in occupied Japan. He was the owner and operator of Penndel Service Center for many years prior to his retirement. Mahlon was a private pilot for 65 years, learning to fly on the GI Bill at Buehl Field in Somerton. He was also a member of the Quiet Birdman of the Trenton Hanger.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers and staff at Juniper Village for wonderful care given to Anna and Mahlon.
Anna and Mahlon are survived by their two loving and devoted children Dennis and his wife Veronica and Arlene. They are also survived by their 3 grandchildren, Jennifer (Steve), Dennis Jr., and Theresa (William), their 4 cherished great grandchildren, and Anna's brother George Murphy.
Anna and Mahlon’s family will receive friends on Friday, May 20, 2022 from 10:00am until their Funeral Mass 11:00am in St. Ephrem Catholic Church, 5340 Hulmeville Rd. Bensalem, PA 19020. Their Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Contributions in memory of Anna and Mahlon may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
