Thomas Neely Jr
Thomas Neely, Jr, a resident of Southampton, passed away December 27, 2021 at Masonic Village Nursing home. He was 89. He was the beloved husband of the late Janet D. (nee Caddick) Neely.
Born January 7, 1932 in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Thomas and Margaret (Hellings) Neely, Sr.
He was never one to sit still for very long and always had many projects going on at his home or helping at someone else's home. Whether it was taking down trees, putting on a new roof or siding or building decks with the boys or putting in new doors, he was up for the challenge. Tom was also active with the local Masonic Lodge and enjoyed his monthly meetings.
Tom, along with Janet, was very active in their church. He served as treasurer for many years. He was always in charge of cutting whatever meat Janet would cook up for the various church banquets. He enjoyed the Mariners club at church and attended many events and trips with their church family. Their church friends were family too. Many weekends were spent playing cards and having picnics with longtime friends.
A fact not known by many, Tom served in both the Navy and Army. During his time in the Army, he served as a front line medic in the Korean War. He was awarded both the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
Tom enjoyed spending time with his family on their many camping trips, beach vacations and ski weekends. He always stayed behind while the rest of the family was at the beach or skiing on the mountain because “someone had to start dinner.” He was always quick with a “dad” joke or a funny story.
Tom and Janet were married for 63 years, and from that marriage came their three children; Thomas Neely (Christina), the late Denise Matulis (Albert), and Wendy Greiner (Joseph).
In addition to his children, Tom is survived by his eight grandchildren, Carolyn Lavelle (Kevin), Albert Matulis, Jr. (Rachel), Danielle Oxley (David), Nicolle Pritchard (Brad), Thomas Neely (Shevron), Samantha Greiner, Joseph Greiner, Jr. and Kerri Greiner; and ten great-grandchildren, Ryan, Kelsey, Brooke, Micah, Abigail, Jonah, Anna, Miles, Avery, and Pia.
