Doris M. Ursic

Doris M. Ursic, 97, passed away Saturday, December 18, 2021, at her residence in Langhorne, PA.

Born March 14, 1924 in Passaic, NJ, Doris was the daughter of the late Michael and Wilma (Matusz) Begala.  She was the wife of the late Anthony V. Ursic, to whom she was married for 60 years until his passing in 2009. She was the beloved mother to the late Thomas A. Ursic who recently passed on October 29, 2021.

Doris attended elementary school in Phillipsburg, NJ and graduated from Phillipsburg High School (Class of 1941).  She graduated from St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing, Bethlehem PA, Class of 1945. While training, she enlisted and became a member of the US Army Cadet Nurse Corp.  She was assigned to a veteran’s hospital in Richmond, VA, where she cared for wounded veterans returning from war.  After the Nurse Corp, Doris returned to work at St. Luke’s Hospital.

After marrying Anthony Ursic in 1949, they lived in Bethlehem, Trenton, NJ, Princeton, NJ, and Langhorne, PA.  Doris and Tony loved hosting family and friends and were especially known for their annual New Year’s Eve parties which were fondly remembered as the holiday event of the year. They also enjoyed extensive traveling, including many memorable cruises.

Doris was an avid reader, switching to audio books when she became legally blind.  She was a devout Catholic saying her rosary at least twice each day. Her favorite roles were being a mom, grand mom, great-grand mom and friend to many. Doris had strength, faith and a great sense of humor.  Everyone who met her loved her.

Doris will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Beverly Ursic (Robert Young) of Newark, DE, Catharine Obert-Thorn (Mark) of North Wales, PA and daughter-in-law Nancy Ursic of Newtown, PA.  She was the beloved grandmother to six grandchildren: Bryan Ursic (Marc Mandell) of Yardley, PA, Michael Ursic of Morgantown, WV, Jennifer Luhmann (Steven) of Newtown, PA, Caitlin Gasco (John) of Dripping Springs, TX, Kyle Ursic of Newtown, PA and Kevin Ursic of Morrisville, PA.  She was the proud great-grandmother to Jackson Ursic, Olivia Gasco, Adelyn Luhmann and Arbor Gasco.  She will be fondly remembered by her sisters-in-law Patricia Ursic and Margaret Ursic and many nieces and nephews.

Doris’ family will receive condolences on Thursday, December 30, 2021, from 10:00 AM until her Funeral Mass at 11 AM at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 81 Swamp Rd, Newtown, PA.  Interment at Holy Savior Cemetery, Bethlehem, PA, will be private and at a later date.
