Matthew Joseph Godfrey Jr.

Matthew Godfrey, Jr. of Holland, PA died suddenly on Wednesday, November 3, 2021. He was 76.

Matthew was the beloved husband of 40 years to Madeline Klebes Godfrey.

Born in Philadelphia, PA he was the son of the late Matthew and Lilian McCarty Godfrey. He had one sister, the late Joanne Godfrey O’Shea.

Matt was born on February 17, 1945. Matt’s father died when he was seven years old. His mother instilled a wonderful work ethic at a young age in Matt and his sister, Joanne. Matt graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High School, and then went on to graduate from Philadelphia Community College. He enlisted in the Army during the Vietnam War, and continued on to work in the Pentagon during his time in the Army. Unfortunately, while Matt was in the service his sister passed away. After his military service, he devoted his time to his wonderful mother until her death.

Matt loved working his whole life. He was employed by Westinghouse until they closed, and then went on to work for the Railroad, which he loved. Matt also held part-time employment at Super Fresh and Acme.

Along with his wife, Madeline “Madge”, Matthew is survived by three children, Anna Godfrey, Matthew Godfrey III and his wife Daisy, and Jennifer Shantzer and her husband Todd; and 11 grandchildren, whom he loved, and, in turn, loved their grandpop dearly.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewings on Wednesday,  November 10, 2021 from 6:00 to 8:00PM and on Thursday November 11, 2021 from 9:00 to 10:15AM in the Joseph A.
