Thomas A. Ursic
Thomas A. Ursic, of Newtown, PA, passed away after battling the effects of severe COVID-19 pneumonia on Friday, October 29, 2021, at Virtua Hospital in Willingboro, NJ, after one month of hospitalization at St. Mary Hospital in Langhorne, PA. He was 70 years old.
Tom and his wife Nancy (Svenson) had just celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary in September.
Born in Bethlehem, PA, at St. Luke’s Hospital, he was the son of Doris (Begala) Ursic, who was a nurse at St. Luke’s, and the late Anthony V. Ursic.
At age 4, Tom’s family moved to Trenton, NJ, and he then attended Our Lady of Sorrows school there before moving to Hopewell Township to attend The Pennington School (Class of 1969). Tom graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ, and pursued & earned his Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering while working for Becton-Dickinson and Company in their East Rutherford and Fairfield, NJ, locations. While at BD, he developed the world’s first detachable mini-balloon catheter. He later joined his father in the family manufacturing business, A.M. Gatti, Inc., and would eventually become President and CEO. Tom was instrumental in the design and development of sapphire orifice nozzle technology for ultra-high pressure water jetting. He was awarded numerous patents for his novel designs that have had profound and long-lasting influence on the industry.
Tom loved life and his family and over the years enjoyed many hobbies including boating, aviation, golfing, traveling, military history and, most recently, collecting classic cars.
In addition to his wife Nancy and mother Doris, Tom is survived by his five children; Bryan T. Ursic of Yardley, PA, Michael C. Ursic of Morgantown, WV, Jennifer E. Luhmann of Newtown, Kyle C. Ursic, also of Newtown, and Kevin M. Ursic, of Morrisville, PA. He is also survived by his sons-in-law Marc Mandell and Steven Luhmann, grandchildren Jackson M. Ursic of Morgantown and Adelyn Mae Luhmann of Newtown, and his sisters Beverly J. Ursic (Robert Young) of Newark, DE, and Catharine A. Obert-Thorn (Mark) of North Wales, PA.
Tom’s family will receive friends on Friday, November 5, 2021 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and again on Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. until his funeral service at 10:00 a.m. in the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Rd. (at Holland Rd.), Richboro, PA. 18954.
His interment will follow immediately at Newtown Cemetery, 16 N. Chancellor St., Newtown.
