Edward Eugene Wilson

After a family emergency, and with grateful hearts, the Wilson family is able to continue with the Interment at Washington Crossing National Cemetery on Wednesday, October 20, 2021. Attendees are reminded to arrive at the cemetery administrative office at 10:15 am promptly, following signs indicating the line for funeral processions. We thank you for your patience.

Edward Eugene Wilson died Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was 84 years old. Born on December 28, 1936, in Ithaca, New York, he was the son of the late David and Marian Auten Wilson. He graduated from New York State College for Teachers (now SUNY Albany). Edward was drafted into the Army and stationed at Frankford Arsenal in Philadelphia, where he became a computer programmer. He continued to work there as a civil servant until it closed. Then he was hired at the Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC). He retired as a Computer Specialist with DPSC and enjoyed 25 years of retirement.

Edward was the beloved husband of Helen Lapkiewicz Wilson. They celebrated 48 years of marriage this year. They met while working at the Frankford Arsenal. As a young couple they enjoyed bowling in leagues and golfing. In fact, Edward loved all sports, especially the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles, and he would watch any sport you could imagine on television.  He was very intelligent and enjoyed playing games and doing crossword puzzles. Edward also enjoyed working in the garden and doing yard work.  He will be remembered fondly for his dry wit.

In addition to his wife Helen, Edward will be greatly missed by his children and their spouses, Gregory Wilson (Melissa), Beverly Pelletier (Normand), Christine Wilson, Cynthia Wilson (Christopher Kulp), Sharon Decker (Scott), Patricia Wilson (Oliver Withstandley), Rebecca Wilson, and Robert Wilson; his grandchildren, Noelle, Harmony, Raymond, Shane, Peter, and Duncan; his siblings David Wilson, Nancy Covert, and Carol Wilson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings Marjorie Clark, James Webb Wilson, Richard Wilson, and Stephen Wilson.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet Edward’s family on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, from 10am to 12pm at St. Bede the Venerable Church, Holland, PA. Funeral Mass will begin at 12pm. His interment will be on October 20, 2021, at 10:30am promptly, with military honors, at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, PA. For those attending, we ask that you arrive at the Administration Building, following signs to line up in procession, at 10:15. For the safety of all, masks will be required indoors. The Funeral Mass will be live streamed for those unable to attend in person.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Edward’s memory to the American Kidney Fund: https://www.kidneyfund.org or to St. Bede the Venerable Church, 1071 Holland Rd. Holland, PA 18966.
