Celia Hanuschek (Hartmann)

Celia Hanuschek of Southampton, PA died Sunday, September 19, 2021 at the age of 88. Celia was born on August 12, 1933 in the village of Erbshausen in Bavaria, Germany. An adventuresome woman who did not want to be a hatmaker or stay on the family farm, she decided to emigrate to the United States.  She arrived in Chicago where she was so fortunate to meet the love of her life, Wilhelm Hanuschek, also an immigrant, but from Breslau, Silesia in Germany. They were married for 55 years before Wilhelm’s death in 2010.

Celia and Wilhelm raised a close family of three boys. They (and later her grandchildren) were her greatest joy. Celia embraced all aspects of homelife and was an avid (and accomplished) cook, baker, seamstress, gardener and artist. Spending time at “Oma’s,” as Celia became lovingly known in her later years, was a highlight for all that knew her. She prepared fabulous meals, pastries, cakes and made all feel so welcome.  She made us laugh and left us often with a smile. Not one to sit still for long, Celia also spent over thirty years between private duty nursing and working for St. Joseph’s Manor. She loved helping and caring for people. Celia also loved to travel, and the adventuresome streak remained as she was always happy to take a trip and got to see much of the world with her husband and family.

Celia is survived by her sons Gerhard and Fred (Marion), five grandchildren Elise, Walter, Carolyn, Paul and Amanda and siblings Ludwig, Emma, Hugo, Brigitta. She was preceded in death by her son Norman, her parents Christian and Maria (Stark) Hartmann and siblings Hildegard, Alois, Amanda and Rosa.

To celebrate Celia’s life, relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Saturday, October 16, 2021 from 10:00 AM, until the start of her Funeral Mass, 10:30am, at Our Lady of Good Council Church, 611 Knowles Avenue, Southampton, PA 18966. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. https://www.alz.org/delval
