Edward Robert Floyd, of Chesterton, IN and later of Holland, PA, died Saturday, September 18, 2021, at St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, PA. He was 80 years old.
Ed was the beloved husband of Judith Lynne Douglas Floyd. As high school sweethearts, they were married for 57 years. They shared many years of memories, family, and love.
Born in Gary, Indiana, Ed was the son of the late William and Lucille McLochlin Floyd. He was also the brother of the late Wilma Onofrey, Donald Floyd and Phillip Floyd.
Ed began working in his youth and found innovative ways to fund his adventures. One fond memory is when he threw ice cream bars up to servicemen on the train as it was pulling out of the station. The men then threw money out the train windows at him. Ed participated in every activity and fundraiser the Boy Scouts could offer him. In high school he raised enough money to attend the Valley Forge Boy Scout Jamboree of 1957 and also earned his Eagle Scout rank.
After studying electrical engineering at Purdue, Ed had a long career at Bethlehem Steel in Burns Harbor, IN. He raised his family in Chesterton, IN where he was an involved husband, father, and friend. In his retirement years he and Judy moved to Pennsylvania where he took on the name of “Pa” and was the number one fan at all of Laura’s and Matthew’s activities.
Ed was known for his positive attitude, and his life demonstrated his amazing ability to adapt to challenges. Although he was no longer able to physically play music, he continued to love music and especially loved the music program at St. John’s Ivyland.
In addition to his wife Judy, Ed will be missed by his sons and daughter-in-law, Mark D. and Sarah Churness Floyd and Kevin E. Floyd, his grandchildren Matthew and Laura, his sister-in-law Carol Floyd and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service for Edward Robert Floyd will be held at St. John’s United Methodist Church (820 Almshouse Road in Ivyland, PA 18974) on Thursday, September 23, 2021, at 5:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to his church at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 820 Almshouse Road in Ivyland, PA 18974 or to his grandson’s Boy Scout Troop #147, 40 Crestview Dr., Holland, PA 18966.
