Jeanette Y. Nystrom (Belanger)

Jeanette Y. Nystrom of Newtown, PA died peacefully, surrounded by her devoted family, on Friday September 17, 2021 at St. Mary Medical Center, Langhorne. She was 71.

Born in California, she was the beloved wife of Thomas E. Nystrom for the past 45 years. Daughter of the late Robert and Dorothy, and devoted grandmother of the late Justine.

Jeanette grew up in California and Illinois.  She attended Catholic grade school, public high school and junior college, where she developed a fondness for reading and learning which she carried throughout her life. She was a dedicated employee of Wilson Sports and Beckley Cardy prior to her marriage to Thomas in 1976. Together, they moved to New Jersey, where she began making a home for her growing family. She and her family moved to Ohio and then onto Pennsylvania, where she spent some of the happiest years of her life.

She was a dedicated room mother and newspaper editor for many years at the elementary school her children attended. She loved planning and participating in class parties, watching the Halloween parade, doing crafts with the kids at Valentine’s day and cheering everyone on at field day. She spent many years as the soccer registrar for the local township recreation league, and was the leader for her daughters brownie troop when she was young.

She was the glue of the family both near and far. She often arranged for relatives to visit from out of town, inviting them to come and stay with her and Thomas. She loved the role of hostess, and entertaining guests brought her so much joy.  She shone the brightest during the holidays, where she mastered the ability to bring everyone together and celebrate our cherished traditions. Holiday’s and special occasions were always so magical for all involved.

When she wasn’t hosting friends or family, Jeanette enjoyed traveling. She often reminisced about past trips with her husband, their friends and her family. She loved taking pictures and was always a brightly smiling subject of many of them. She commemorated her travels and special events in photos, for which her family will be forever grateful.  She always said how fortunate she was to be able to see all the places she did in her lifetime, and to be able to do it with the people she loved most.

She was an avid reader of all types of literature, and a frequent patron of Barnes and Noble.  She attended book release events whenever a new book she had an interest in was hitting the shelves. As much as she enjoyed reading, she also enjoyed multiple cuisines, and loved imaginative meals prepared by talented chefs at many of the finest restaurants in the world. She was a fine cook, dedicated student of the culinary arts and fine wine enthusiast. She also had a deep love of country and was a proud American that never missed an opportunity to thank a serviceman or servicewoman. Her appreciation and respect for all those that serve the country she loved so much was celebrated by her through her patriotic spirit.

She was a woman of many interests, but her most prized occupations were devoted wife, loving mother and doting grandmother. Jeanette could not have been happier when she earned the title of Grandma for the first time. This was a title she loved so much. Her grandchildren all brought her so much joy. Alexis, Halle, Justine, Eddie, Mandi, Matthew, Thomas and Meghan. They were the apple of her eye, the pep in her step, the song in her heart. She was with her grandchildren as much as she could be, often multiple times a week. She took them to dinners, for shopping trips, had them for sleepovers, for mani pedis, attended countless soccer games, parades, dance recitals, plays, cheer events, basketball games, softball games and played endless hours of board games (and video games that the kids talked her into downloading on her phone like; Fortnite, Roblox and Woodoku). She always encouraged her children and grandchildren to pursue their interests with vigor, and in doing so, came to share many interests in common with each of them. To say they will forever miss her would be the understatement of this most difficult year.

In addition to her beloved husband Tom, Jeanette is survived by her three children; Kristen and her husband Ed, Kurt and his wife Jennifer and Julie and her husband Brian. She is also survived by her siblings, Robert, Edward and his wife Linda, Donna and her husband Pat. Jeanette was the loving and devoted grandmother to Alexis, Halle, Eddie, Mandi, Matthew, Thomas and Meghan.
