Janice G. Weston
Janice G. Weston of Macungie, PA died peacefully on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Wesley Enhanced Living in Doylestown, PA. after a two-year battle with cancer. She was 75. Janice was born on May 18, 1946 in Nashua, New Hampshire, to William Boyd Weston, DMD and Marjorie Ann (Kennedy) Weston, formerly from Doylestown, PA.
Janice grew up in the small town of Hollis, New Hampshire, in an old farmhouse surrounded by apple orchards. When her parents added the pool in 1959, she discovered a love of sunbathing and swimming which lasted her entire life, culminating in treasured winters on Marco Island, Florida. She made friends everywhere she went, still connecting regularly with her high school classmates from Hollis to more recent friends from her retirement years.
Jan was always an avid reader and an excellent student. After graduating from Hollis High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society, she attended American University where she studied linguistics, focusing on Russian. She went on to graduate school at the University of Pennsylvania. During that time, she reconnected with a childhood friend from Doylestown which soon led to marriage and the birth of a child. This interrupted her quest for a PhD in linguistics but provided exciting new challenges. From linguistics, she switched to computers — just another sort of language — working first at IBM and then, for almost three decades, in the MIS Department at Air Products Chemicals Incorporated (APCI).
Over the 20+ years at APCI, she received numerous awards of achievement and accolades on her performance. As a way to give back to the community and find intellectual stimulation, Janice became actively involved in the local chapters of MENSA and the Chamber of Commerce. Upon her retirement from Air Products, she spent time volunteering at the Lehigh Valley Hospital and a host of other non-profits that could use her enthusiasm and support. When not volunteering, Jan was busy planning her travel schedule. Whether it was her annual trip to Marco Island, FL or other destinations, she was always looking forward to exploring her next destination.
Dependable and focused, Janice was a dedicated mother who treasured her only child, Derek Evans. When Derek and Lynn Fareno (also of Doylestown) married and had their own children, Janice had two lovely grandchildren to dote on. She cherished every moment that she was able to engage in their young lives. Janice will be remembered for her dedication to her family, her collections of wooden statues of Santa and wooden mushrooms, and her great smile.
Janice is predeceased by her sister Judith Annabelle Weston. Janice is survived by her loving and devoted son John Derek Evans and his wife Lynn of Doylestown, PA. She is also survived by her two grandchildren Kenzie and Maxwell Evans, her sister Joyce Cameron Weston and her wife Sally Widerstrom, her nephew George Paul Morrill, and her nieces Carla Milsop and Lynn Roberts.
A family service will be held at the East Cemetery, Wheeler Road, Hollis, New Hampshire 03049, on Friday, September 24, 2021 at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the John and Dorothy Morgan Cancer Center at Lehigh Valley Hospital, 1240 South Cedar Crest Boulevard Allentown, PA 18103.
