Ernest C. Martelli, Jr.
Ernest C. Martelli Jr. of Yardley, PA died peacefully in his sleep in Sherburne, New York on Sunday, September 5th, 2021. He was 84 years old.
Ernest was born in Long Island, New York to the late Ernest C. Martelli and Edith Andlos Martelli. He was the beloved husband of Carol Allaire Marelli for the past 63 years and devoted father to his four children.
Ernest was a resident of Yardley for over 80 years. He was a 1955 graduate of Pennsbury High School. Ernest’s first career began at a very young age for the Yardley Flower Company, which was established by his immigrant grandparents. In 1981 he established Martelli’s Trucking, which ultimately grew to a fleet of nineteen trucks for transporting, towing and more. His company still operates today as part of his son’s Martelli’s Metal Fabrication in Ivyland, PA.
Ernest loved working with his hands and he cherished being able to work together with his family every day. He took pride in his gardening and meticulously kept yard...and his enthusiasm for his work became his hobby as evidenced by his collection of cars, trucks and John Deere tractors.
Ernest’s family meant everything to him, holding them in the highest regard and putting them above all else. His beloved wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren came first and foremost.
He will be dearly missed for his quick wit, welcoming smile and firm handshake. He was a very special and kind man, always willing to lend a hand. His favorite times were spent gathering around the table with the entire family sharing laughs and stories...whether a special occasion or not. In Ernest’s famous words “a party is never a bad idea”.
In addition to his dear wife Carol, he is survived by his children: Carol Ramsden (Rick), Lorie Thompson (Kevin), Ernest C. Martelli III (Alice). He was preceded in death by his youngest son Phillip M. Martelli (2020).
Ernest is survived by his brother Peter Martelli (Cecelia), and 3 sisters: Columbia Altiere (late husband Tom), Mary Dolusic (Ronald), and Lori Bakalar (Robert). He was preceded in death by his brother Charles Martelli (and his wife Caroline) and his sister Julie Sklute.
He was the proud Pop to his grandchildren: Jennifer Loreto (Nick), Kelly Misner (Andrew), Ashley LaRose (Joseph), Amanda DiFede (John), Mike and Taylor Martelli, Stephanie Calhoun and Kenneth Calhoun (Nina). He is also survived by his seven great grandchildren: Kevin, Jack and Robert Loreto, Bailey and Landon Misner and Joseph and Matthew LaRose.
