Adele H. Holmes (Vozab)

Adele H. Holmes (née Vozab), of New Hope, died on August 29, 2021.  She was 96 years old.  Adele was the devoted wife of 56 years to the late Robert L. Holmes, who preceded her in death in 2003.  She was the beloved daughter of the late Charles and Josephine (Makarius) Vozab.

In Adele’s early childhood years she was an active member of the Sokol Club where she practiced gymnastics and calisthenics along with family members and friends. Upon completing schooling in the early 40’s and prior to starting a family of her own she worked for several years in the booming Garment District of Manhattan NY. This passion of sewing and creating clothing remained a favorite hobby throughout her lifetime. After marriage and relocating to New Hope, PA Adele took great pride in growing and caring for a large flower and vegetable garden. She truly believed that the simple pleasures of gardening coupled with consuming fresh vegetables were key to a long and healthy lifestyle. In her later years she enjoyed reading and the challenge of completing jigsaw puzzles.

If you asked Adele what her greatest achievement in life was she would say without hesitation “Being a homemaker and raising two wonderful daughters”.

Adele is survived by her daughters and their spouses: Deborah and Charles Prall of Newtown and June and Paul Valentine of Yardley; by her grandchildren and their spouses: Lindsey and Josh Napora of Cleveland, OH, Paul Valentine of Yardley, Courtney and Bryce East of Fort Benning, GA, and Megan and Andrew Shapowal of Fountainville; by her four great-grandchildren: Paul, Emilio, Tyler, and Penny; and by her cousin, Robert Eitel of Long Island, NY.  She was preceded in death by several family members, including her infant son, Lyle Gary Holmes, who passed away in June of 1953.

A Graveside Service with Military Honors rendered by the US Air Force will take place promptly on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at 1:30 PM, Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, where Adele and Robert will be laid to rest together.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Veterans Administration, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, or the Bucks County SPCA in Adele’s name are appreciated. Donations may be made by clicking the “Charities” button above.
