Mary A. Sherman (Stanley)

Mary Ann Sherman, age 82, passed away peacefully at her home in Chalfont surrounded by her family on Saturday, August 28, 2021.

Born December 8, 1938 in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late James and Rose (McNamee) Stanley, and the widow of the late John S. Sherman, to whom she was married 60 years at the time of his passing in 2018.  She was a 1957 graduate of West Philadelphia Catholic Girls High School.  Mary was a long time resident of Lawncrest before moving to Chalfont.

Mary was a dedicated mother, first and foremost.  She cherished her children and embraced every moment with them.  She especially loved her role as Granny and Gigi.  She was a beloved employee at Castor Pediatrics for over 25 years.  She provided guidance and comfort to many parents exceeding the demands of her job.

Mary was not only a pillar in her family but also in her community.   She held many leadership roles in the community including Cub Scout Den Mother and President (1977 – 1978) of the Women’s Club of Lawncrest where she was a longtime member.

Mary was a woman of many creative talents such as wallpaper hanger, designer of beautiful holiday crafts, crocheter, bow maker, and seamstress who created many holiday outfits, Halloween costumes, and curtains.

Mary is survived by: sons John S. Sherman and Stephen J. Sherman, both of Philadelphia; daughters Marianne McGovern (late husband Kevin) of Warminster, and Jacquelynn Ford (husband Albert) of Philadelphia; 10 beloved grandchildren; 1 adored great-grandchild; brothers James Stanley (late wife Nancy), and Patrick Stanley (wife Elizabeth); sister Rosemary Dolewa (husband Gene); and her dog, Lucky.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Thursday, September 2, 2021 from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM, and to her Funeral Mass at 11:30 AM, at St. Jude Church, 321 W. Butler Avenue, Chalfont, PA 18914.  Her interment will follow in St. John Neumann Cemetery, Chalfont.

Donations may be made in her name to Home At Last Dog Rescue, at P.O. Box 1341, North Wales, PA 19454, or online at https://www.homeatlastdogrescue.com/fund, and The Breathing Room Foundation, at P.O. Box 287, Jenkintown, PA 19046, or online at https://breathingroomfoundation.org/donate.
