Joseph H. Smith, Jr.
Joseph Henry Smith, Jr., age 86, died Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at his home in New Hope, surrounded by his loving family.
Born August 10, 1934, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Joseph Henry Sr., and Elizabeth McGonigle Smith, and the husband of Mary Doyle Smith, to whom he was married 64 years.
Joseph operated a trucking business in Philadelphia with his two sons, Brian and Michael, as did his father before him. Joseph was interested in hot rods and show cars since he was a teenager, having owned a 1932 Ford 5-Window Coupe, a 1950 Mercury known as “The Lead Sled”, and then a fully-loaded 1978 Lincoln Town Car with Continental kit – all show quality. All trucks, cars, and show cars were always spotlessly maintained. Joseph’s other interests included taking great pride in his lawn and garden, working endlessly in them as long as he was able.
In addition to his wife, Joseph is survived by: children Brian J. Smith, and his wife Lynn, Sharon K. Smith-Kennedy, and her husband Jay, Patricia D. Smith-Rogers, Denise M. Gormley, and her husband Warren, and Michael J. Smith, and his wife Tammy; grandchildren Madison, Jackie, Leanne, Mary, Madeline, Melissa, Brianna, Rebecca, Megan, Suzanne, and Michael Jr.; great-grandchildren Wyatt, Jordyn, Stella, Evelyn, Jace, J.D., Dylan, and Mitchell; and sister Barbara Schaffer.
Services and interment will be private and at the discretion of the family.
