Dr. Janet Chyng-Jiau Lin Zhang
On June 25, 2021, Dr. Janet Chyng-Jiau Lin Zhang, loving wife and mother of two children, passed away at the age of 57 after a year-long battle with lung cancer.
Born on January 4, 1964, in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, Janet graduated from Arcadia High School and received a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Harvard University in 1985, received her Medical Doctorate from Duke University in 1989, performed residency at Harvard’s Beth Israel Hospital, and received a cardiology fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. While attending Harvard, she met and married her husband Yehong in 1988, and together, they lived and worked internationally, moving to places such as Puerto Rico, Hong Kong and Shanghai and later back to Philadelphia. Janet had an illustrious career practicing cardiology and cared for patients around the world. With her easy mastery of languages and deep interest in local cultures, she derived tremendous satisfaction from her travels and left behind many friendships and countless patients who benefited from her expertise and care.
Janet had a strong sense of righteousness and compassion, and her moral compass always guided her actions and words. She organized donations and healthcare for children of migrant workers in Shanghai, went on healthcare field trips to South Africa, and was a tireless champion for those in need.
With her strong Christian faith, Janet volunteered to play the piano for her church and taught Sunday school for young children in various churches she attended in Asia and America.
A devoted mother and wife who would give her all for her family, Janet’s biggest satisfaction was simply time spent with her two children, husband, siblings and family.
A passionate dog lover, Janet cared for Misha (a pure bred Collie), Tommy (a rescue in Hong Kong/Shanghai) and Matt (a rescue Pyrenees/German shepherd) over three decades, never hesitating to provide them with highest quality food or squeaky toys. Family and friends are always amazed by her encyclopedic knowledge on anything dog related.
A connoisseur of seafood, Janet especially enjoyed sushi and lobsters.
Janet loved classical music and was often found playing the piano, cello, or guqin on weekends, offering a brief respite from an endless stream of patient charts.
Janet is survived by her father Dr. Young-Tso Lin, mother Amy Lin, husband Yehong, her two children Nathaniel and Anna-Marie, her sister Kay, her brother Shu and nieces and nephews. She is also survived, loved and adored by her in-laws Mr. Delin Zhang, Ms. Xiuzhi Liu and brothers in law Yejiang Zhang, Yeyi Zhang and their families.
Janet leaves behind many beautiful memories and will be deeply missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Thursday, July 1, 2021 from 10:00AM until her Funeral Service beginning at 11:00AM in Woodside Presbyterian Church, 1667 Edgewood Rd., Yardley, PA 19067.
