Charles L. Vaughan Service Information

Chief Charles L. Vaughan of Richboro, formerly of Wycombe died peacefully on Wednesday June 23, 2021 at Abington Jefferson Hospice, Warminster with his wife by his side. He was 78.

Born in Montgomery County, he was the beloved husband of Mary P. Skibo Vaughan for the past 47 years. He was the devoted son of the late Howard E. and Ethel Scarborough Vaughan and brother of the late John Vaughan.

“Charlie”, as he was known to family, friends and fellow Firefighters in Bucks County, grew up in the Wycombe area.  He attended Central Bucks High School. He started his career in Textiles at an early age working for the Knitting Mill in Wycombe and later working in Research and Development in the Textile industry in Perkasie, PA.

Charlie’s passion was helping everyone; he was an active member of the Lingohocken Fire Company for 20 years. In 1978 he received the CBCC award for his passionate service, and was Lingohocken Fire Chief in 1986 and 1987. He and Mary moved from Wycombe to Richboro in 1990 and he promptly joined the Northampton Township Volunteer Fire Company and has been an active and faithful Life member and mentor for over 31 years. He served as Northampton Fire Chief in 1999 and 2000.

Charlie’s teaching career spanned 30 years, he worked for the County of Bucks from 1989 to 1999 as Fire Training Coordinator and in 2000 he went to work for Bucks County Community College as Director of Industrial Training, he was a certified Instructor in Fire Safety, Hazmat and Pumper training and was teaching full time until 2012. He was an Adjunct Instructor up until his illness this April.  

Charlie’s outgoing, warm and welcoming personality and expert knowledge of Fire Safety, made him the choice of Bucks County Community College to send to the NATO Bases in Turkey and Japan to teach fire safety courses.                              

In his spare time when not mentoring young firefighters, you would find Charlie at a Street Rod Car Show or working on his Classic 1975 Corvette Sting Ray getting it ready for a show or meeting the gang for a cruise night.

In addition to his beloved wife Mary, he is survived by his sister, Bertha J. Skerle, and her husband Fred. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and his many friends in Fire Service in Bucks County.

He will be sadly missed for his friendship and dedication to Fire Prevention, Safety and Education, that he gave to young firefighters.

A Memorial Service for Chief Charles L. Vaughan will be held on Sunday, September 19^th 2021 at the Middletown Grange Fair Grounds, 576 Penns Park Rd. Newtown, PA 18940 at 11:00am.  A Luncheon will follow.
