Honorable Susan Devlin Scott
Honorable Susan Devlin Scott, Senior Judge and former President Judge for the Common Pleas Court Bucks County died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving husband and son on Friday, May 28, 2021. She was 76.
Susan was the beloved wife of 51 years to William (Bill) R. Scott Sr.
Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Hazel Roberts Devlin.
Susan received her under graduate degree in Biology from Temple University on a full scholarship, and then spent a year as a fulltime instructor in the Temple Biology Department. During that period she married her husband William R. Scott
She left her position as an instructor at Temple when she was awarded a graduate fellowship at Temple Hospital Microbiology Department where she earned the credits required for a PhD. After the birth of her son in 1971 she enrolled in the Night School Division of the Temple University School of Law where she was selected as a member of the Temple Law Review and earned her Juris Doctorate. Upon graduation she accepted a position as a law clerk in the Federal Court in Philadelphia where she served for one year during which time she was admitted to the Bar.
She then worked as an attorney in private practice establishing the first all female law firm in Bucks County.
After spending 14 years in private practice she was elected common pleas court judge, becoming at that time the only female Judge and later became the first female President Judge in the Common Pleas Court for Bucks County. In her role as President Judge she successfully negotiated for the new courthouse and oversaw the plans for its implementation. She was a highly respected judge noted for her insight and fairness. Since her retirement in 2014, Susan served as a Senior Judge for the Court and has enjoyed time traveling with friends and family. She also enjoyed music and gardening. Together with Bill, they transformed their Bucks County farmhouse into a lovely garden, a lasting legacy. Friends will always remember her for her very dry and sometimes disarming sense of humor. She will be greatly missed, but eternally loved by everyone who had the pleasure to have been loved by her.
In addition to her beloved husband Bill, Susan is survived by her loving and devoted son William R. Scott Jr. and his wife Becky of Belmont, CA. She is also survived by her adoring grandchildren Ryan and Emma and her brother Michael Devlin.
Services and interment were held privately at Forest Hills Cemetery in Huntingdon Valley, PA.
