Kenneth C. “Ken” Sweeney

Kenneth C. Sweeney “Ken” passed on Saturday May 15, 2021 at St. Mary Medical Center, Langhorne. He was 86.

Ken was the beloved husband of 68 years to Barbara E. McBride Sweeney, and son of the late Frank B. and Cecilia Gabritsch Sweeney.

Born in Philadelphia, he attended Frankford High School before starting his professional career working with his parents at B & O Beverage and eventually transitioning to owning Holmesburg and Cottman Beverage for many years.  In 1985, he partnered with his son Terry, to establish and own Sweeney’s Saloon for 34 years and continued to be involved in the family’s other location in Fox Chase, Sweeney’s Verree Tavern.

Ken and his wife have been residents of Holland, Pa for 43 years.  He was a “Man’s Man’s”, yet had a very outgoing and gentle way about him.. For much of his life, Ken enjoyed hunting and was a lifelong member of Holmesburg Gun Club as well as the NRA. He will be remembered for his quick wit and firm handshake.

Family came first and foremost to Ken.  His grandchildren, and now his great granddaughter, brought a sparkle to his eye. In addition to his wife Barbara, he is survived by his son and daughter, Terrance P. “Terry” Sweeney and his wife Linda, Kathleen C. “Kate” Krautheim and her husband Joel, And his sister Cecilia Pabst and her husband John.  Also his 3 dear grandchildren; Christian Sweeney, Kendall Fleisch and her husband Timothy, and Kirsten Sweeney ,and a great granddaughter, Carter L. Fleisch. 

Ken’s family will receive condolences on Thursday May 20, 2021 from 9:00am until his Prayer Service 11:00am at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home 800 Newtown-Richboro Rd. (at Holland Rd.) Richboro. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery, Langhorne.
