Harold J. Martin
Harold James Martin, 89, of The Villages, FL, passed away on May 6, 2021.
He was born on September 1, 1931 in Manhattan, KS, to Harold E. and Myrtle G. (Knox) Martin.
Jim, as friends knew him, began his youth near his family’s farm and attended a two-room schoolhouse. He graduated from Manhattan HS in 1949. Around this time, his family relocated to Topeka, KS where Jim joined the Air Force, attaining the rank of Staff Sgt. After his service he attended Washburn University. With a degree in Business, he went to work for Sperry Univac in Topeka KS, Dallas TX, and Blue Bell PA. He retired in 1989.
Jim married the love of his life, Theresa Louise Johnson. They had many happy years together until her passing in 1998. He loved his home, his family, and the several pets he had over the years. And without doubt, his house and friends in Florida.
Jim and Louise volunteered together for the Chalfont, PA ambulance squad. Jim also volunteered on the fire department and in their management. They served on the board of the Bucks County Chapter of Fox Chase Cancer. He also taught some courses at Delaware Valley College. He and Louise especially enjoyed the dances with the Rhythmic Society and bridge games with friends.
Along with his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Robert Martin, a sister Dorothy Hay, and dear friend Sylvia Jones.
His daughter Sharon Gery and her husband Herb, a brother, along with several nieces and nephews, survive him.
He will be laid to rest at Beulah Cemetery, New Britain, PA. A memorial service will be held later at 11:30 AM on Saturday, May 15, 2021, at Joseph A. Fluehr, III Funeral Home, 241 E. Butler Ave. (at Sandy Ridge Rd.), New Britain, PA 18901, with a visitation from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
