Lydia Diaz Kirchner
Lydia Diaz Kirchner, formerly of Plumstead Township, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She was 65.
Born June 23, 1955, in Brooklyn, NY, Lydia was the daughter of Hilda Moreno Diaz and Rafael Gutiérrez Diaz. She was the loving wife of Ted Kirchner, to whom she was married for 41 years, and a devoted mother to her biological children Brian and Vanessa Kirchner and her “adopted” son Thomas Kerfoot.
For over 40 years, Lydia brightened her surrounding world with her Interior Design firm Images Design & Interiors. During her time operating Images Design and Interiors, Lydia successfully designed and decorated dozens of model homes, private interiors, and commercial real estate offices and country clubs. In 2000, Lydia was listed in the Great Designers of the World and Who’s Who in Interior Design, and received numerous accolades for her work in the industry.
A graduate of English at Villanova University, Lydia was a talented writer and an avid reader. Her first literary loves were for F. Scott Fitzgerald, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and Agatha Christie. Much to the joy of her family and friends, Lydia was a passionate and gifted cook. For those who knew her, Lydia enjoyed the opportunity to serve multi-course dinners to her family and friends, as she shared her particular strengths in both French and Cuban cuisine. Lydia and her husband, Ted, also loved to travel and continually returned to Hawaii, a place that offered them some of their happiest memories.
Above all else, Lydia loved and cared deeply for her family. Though she suffered from her own health issues, Lydia spent her post-professional years supporting and caring for her husband, parents, and children. Since moving to Bucks County, Lydia’s home remained an open door, and she stood by her family and friends during times of great illness, pain, and personal loss. In particular, Lydia’s steadfast devotion to her husband during his period of illness stands as a testament to her love and strength as a wife, mother, and caregiver.
In addition to her mother Hilda Moreno Diaz, Lydia is survived by: daughter Vanessa Kirchner of Doylestown, son Brian Kirchner and wife Kaitlyn Huczko of Brooklyn, son Thomas Kerfoot and husband P.J. DiGiacomo of Bensalem, sister Hilda Luciano and husband Robert of Dumont, NJ, nephews Jeremy Luciano and wife Joan, and Robert Luciano and wife Carla, and her beloved dog Sherlock.
